Gunther vs. Nick Aldis match result at WWE SummerSlam 2026
Gunther vs Nick Aldis took place on the WWE SummerSlam 2026 Night 1 card, going on third following Liv Morgan vs IYO Sky and Royce Keys, LA Knight and Solo Sikoa vs The Bloodline. This would be Aldis’ in-ring debut with the company, with the former TNA and NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion finally getting his opportunity to compete after being the SmackDown general manager for years.
Aldis would make his way to the ring with Morning Glory by Oasis as his theme tune, with the Kings Lynn native being billed as ‘The National Treasure,’ his old moniker from his time as the NWA Champion.

Gunther walked in as the heavy favorite to win and continue his “career killer” gimmick, having beaten Goldberg, John Cena and AJ Styles over the past year or so. Aldis got a lot of love from the fans in attendance in Minnesota, but ultimately he would lose to the Ring General.
The live crowd were very into Aldis as the match wore on, popping for all of the big reversals to Gunther’s signature moves right up until he tapped to the sleeper hold on the ground. Aldis tapped relatively quickly, which seemed to catch the crowd off guard, but he soaked up the adulation after the bell and his son and wife Mickie James would join him in the ring after the match. It felt like a one-and-done deal, but Aldis still looked good having been out of the ring for so long.
