Nick Aldis reinstated as WWE SmackDown GM

Nick Aldis has his old WWE job back again!

At WWE SummerSlam 2026, Nick Aldis wrestled his first match in three years against Gunther. Aldis received a massive ovation from the crowd during his eleven-minute match and a submission loss.

However, just hours after the match, Aldis was back in his old job role as the WWE SmackDown General Manager. Aldis had previously relinquished his position as the General Manager of SmackDown to compete against Gunther at the PLE.

After the loss, Aldis appeared in a WWE SummerSlam post-show interview with Cathy Kelley, when he was joined by Triple H. Aldis proceeded to hand in his resignation letter as the WWE SmackDown General Manager. However, Triple H proceeded to tear the letter into pieces before reinstating him as the SmackDown GM again.

Aldis joined WWE in 2023 as a backstage producer before switching to the on-screen role of a SmackDown General Manager. Aldis has been in that position since then.

Before facing Gunther at SummerSlam, Aldis’ last match dates back to ACW Bluegrass Con in 2023, where he faced off against Caleb Konley, Beastman, Facade, and Matthew Justice.

Triple H addresses Nick Aldis wrestling in WWE again

At the WWE SummerSlam post-show press conference, Triple H addressed the media’s questions about Nick Aldis possibly wrestling again.

“When we first spoke about this, he was open to whatever opportunity there was to come to WWE. It was his dream job. The GM role was what we had. He was thrilled to take it and he’s never really questioned it in any way.

But as a competitor, I know that desire never dies. No matter where you are or how removed from it you are. I know every week when he’s in those arenas, he’s thinking, ‘Man, I remember this.’ Opportunity arose for him to step into the ring, and it was on short notice. But here he is. He looked like a million bucks. Went out there and performed like a million bucks,” Triple H added.

“I have to admit I was pretty emotional watching it happen for him, knowing him as a human being. And I was really excited for him. As far as will it happen again, never say never.”
