Triple H on the same wrestlers being in the top spots: ‘There are no turns in this sh*t…you earn the spot’
Triple H took questions from the media following night one of WWE SummerSlam.
After dropping press conferences from post shows following last year’s SummerSlam, Triple H held an unannounced press conference to media following Saturday’s show in Minneapolis.
One person asked about Damian Priest’s recent comments about the same wrestlers being in the top spots. Triple H responded that the top performers have earned those spots, and it’s up to other wrestlers to take it.
“We’re in a period of time where there’s a lot of top performers in the top spots that, over time, have earned those spots, over time are selling tickets, and over time are really popular. So you really have to do something,” he said.
“The narrative of ‘it’s my turn,’I’ve been here for a while, it’s my turn.” There are no turns in this s***. That’s not how it works. you earn the spot,” he continued. “Believe me, if somebody is getting over more than somebody else, we move that person into the spot and move the other person down. But it’s not just ‘oh, they’re getting a loud crowd reaction than everyone else.’ Are they going to be good in the spot? Are they going to hold up their end of the bargain? Are they going to screw it up if we give it to them? Are they going to make a mistake, regret giving them that spot? All those things factor in.”
Triple H suggested to talent that if they are frustrated, they should work harder. He said that 99% percent of the time, the person gets over, then gets the push.
“Big believer in if you want the spot, go take it. It’s there for everybody to take. When anyone says ‘I don’t know why I’m not in that spot’…I don’t know, are you more over than Cody? More over than Roman? More over than Punk? Are you more over than Liv? IYO? Those are the people in that spot, get there, make those crowd reactions happen.”
The CCO also answered questions on Nick Aldis, match positioning, and Brie Bella’s injury. Here are the highlights:
- Regarding Nick Aldis, he’s never questioned his spot on the rsoter in any way. An opportunity arose for him to step into the ring, something that happened on short notice. He said Aldis looked and performed like a million bucks. Talked about getting Oasis for his theme song, as it was something cleared within the last few days. Regarding Aldis’ future, “we’ll see where it goes.”
- Someone asked about Brock Lesnar’s future. Triple H said he didn’t know. Brock does what Brock wants to do. He went on to talk about how Brock isn’t seen as one of the greats on a technical level, but he would put him there as one of the best of all time due to his believability, bringing a bit of UFC to WWE. One of the best psychology wise.
- About Liv Morgan and IYO SKY opening the show, Triple H said they wanted to open the show with a bang. He pointed out Brock Lesnar has opened the show before and people are too concerned thinking about positions on the card. He doesn’t see the narrative about placement.
- Brie Bella is injured but has no update yet. Has been taken to the hospital to get scans. Her shoulder “seems pretty bad.” He said he thought it was the only serious injury from tonight’s show.
