Potential spoiler on which match will open WWE SummerSlam Sunday
The opening match of WWE SummerSlam Sunday has reportedly been revealed.
According to a report from PWInsider on Sunday, Sami Zayn vs. Finn Balor is scheduled to kick off the show. The match is a number one contender’s bout for a shot at the WWE Championship.
This will be the fourth singles match between Balor and Zayn on WWE programming, with Balor having won all three. Balor defended the Intercontinental title against Zayn on the April 8, 2019, Raw, defeated him again on the July 23, 2021, SmackDown, and again in the semifinals of the 2021 King of the Ring tournament. Prior to that, the two had also wrestled several matches against each other on NXT house shows in late 2015 and early 2016, with Balor having won all four of those too.
The last three singles matches they’ve had were all either on house shows or in dark matches, and were won by Zayn.
Six matches are scheduled for night two of the two-night event. The updated lineup is below.
