Wrestling world pays tribute to Dory Funk Jr.
Tributes are pouring in for Dory Funk Jr.
Following the announcement of his passing on Tuesday, wrestling promotions paid tribute to the former NWA World Heavyweight Champion including WWE, TNA, NWA, MLW, and AEW.
Wrestlers and personalities both from the past and present also paid tribute to Funk, including Cody Rhodes, Ted DiBiase, Mick Foley, and Bruce Prichard.
Dory Funk Jr.βs extraordinary career
Funk was the son of Dory Funk Sr. and the brother of Terry Funk. Both Funk brothers would go on to hold the NWA World Heavyweight title in their respective careers, with Dory holding the title from 1969 through 1973, losing the title to Harley Race. He also had a lengthy run in All Japan Pro Wrestling, teaming with his brother. The duo had a brief run in the WWF as a tag team in 1986.
The brothers wrestled on and off through the decades, occasionally teaming for All Japan. At age 83, Funk wrestled his final match on August 24, 2024, teaming with Osamu Nishimura to defeat Atsushi Onita and Raijin Yaguchi in a double hell current explosion death match.
