Former WWE star reveals Undertaker replacing scrapped plans hinted at trouble before release
Joe Gacy reflected on signs that persuaded him Wyatt Sicks was headed for downfall in WWE. He stated that a promotional segment featuring the group for WrestleMania was scrapped with The Undertaker taking over.
Gacy recalled backstage interactions and match cancellations around WrestleMania 42 that left him confused not too long before the Wyatt Sicks were released by WWE. He revealed on the Insight Podcast that Wyatt Sicks was initially scheduled to have a segment with Tony Hinchcliffe on Kill Tony on Netflix. However, they were replaced by The Undertaker, who chokeslammed him through a table on Kill Tony.
“Then I guess the big thing. So in Vegas, we were actually originally planned to make an appearance at the Tony Hinchcliffe show he was doing. There was supposed to be a thing where we were, I guess, originally pitched to come out and kidnap him. It ended up being The Undertaker gave him a choke slam through a table. So instead of that, it was supposed to be something with us.”
He explained how The MFTs repeatedly getting the upper hand in their rivalry, especially with Wyatt Sicks being babyfaces at the time, made things feel awkward and convinced him something was wrong.
“Then they told us, I think it was the day before, it’s not happening now. We’re like, ‘Okay, no problem.’ And then going into SmackDown, us being the babyfaces, they didn’t allow us to use a lot for the match. In my head, I was like ‘Yeah, there’s stuff going on for the main event. I understand sometimes they have things planned for other people they don’t want us to touch. That’s totally fine.’ Then the big thing was, and I’m not one to complain about this type of thing, but they had MFTs going over on us, and as us being the babyfaces, and this being the blow-off, we’re all kind of a little confused about that decision.”
Gacy cited that a few WWE talents in the locker room questioned MFTs getting over in their feud.
“Even some other guys in the locker room were like, ‘It’s really weird that they’re over on you guys.’ So you know, it was fine, but I think just the overall vibes, just interactions, small interactions I had backstage, and that whole weekend seemed a little off. So I don’t know. I had this sixth sense that something was coming, and I didn’t know what it was, and I just hoped we’ll get through this, and then post WrestleMania, we’ll hopefully move on to the next thing and get something good going. And that is not what happened.”
Gacy debuted on the WWE main roster in 2024 after four years on NXT. His inclusion in the Wyatt Sicks, where he partnered with Dexter Lumis for tag team matches eventually led to the duo winning the WWE Tag Team Titles in July 2025.
