Bully Ray details ‘incredible’ Brock Lesnar & Oba Femi WWE SummerSlam backstage moment
On Busted Open Radio, Bully Ray detailed an “incredible” moment between Brock Lesnar and Oba Femi that happened backstage at WWE SummerSlam.
Bully Ray said that, while he is personally not a fan of the show “WWE: Unreal,” he believes it’s okay to pull back the curtain if WWE is going to do so itself. He then shared that he was backstage reminiscing with Brock Lesnar and Paul Heyman at SummerSlam when Oba Femi came to the door, thanking Lesnar for passing the torch to him in their match. It was an “old-school” and “incredible” moment, Bully Ray says, and helped restore some of the faith Bully Ray has lost in the wrestling industry.
“When I went to Brock’s door and I knocked on it and Brock opened it up and greeted me with a big smile and open arms and blah blah blah,” the former Bubba Ray Dudley said. “We just stood there, he had closed the door behind him, and we just stood there in his locker room and we were talking, we were reminiscing. Paul Heyman walked up to us, and me and Paul hugged. We all have a history with one another. There was a knock at the door. And when Brock Lesnar opened that door, who was on the other side? Oba Femi. And why was Oba Femi coming to Brock Lesnar’s locker room? To thank him.
“And as much faith as I have lost in wrestling because I see the watering down of the industry, especially within the locker room, it made me so happy and warmed my heart to see Oba coming to thank Brock. Not just the handshake afterwards, ‘Thanks, brother. I appreciate it.’ It’s the going out of the way to come to the veteran’s locker room and show the appreciation. And I saw the look on Oba’s face, this was a different person than the Oba Femi in front of the camera. This was the appreciative, younger wrestler coming to pay respect to the veteran who just passed the torch to him.”

Night one of SummerSlam 2026 was headlined by Femi defeating Lesnar in a Hell in a Cell match. It wrapped up their trilogy with Femi coming out ahead with a 2-1 record. While there’s some skepticism over whether this was truly his last match. Lesnar has announced that he is now retired from the ring. He referred to himself as the “past” after the bout and called Femi the “future.”
Before SummerSlam, Paul “Triple H” Levesque told Busted Open (which is now part of WWE Radio) that Lesnar sees something special in Femi and has mentored him behind the scenes. Bully Ray believes WWE has gotten it “very, very, very right” with how they’ve handled everything with Femi since he joined the main roster.
“You could see the humbleness in Oba’s eyes and the appreciation in Oba’s eyes,” Bully Ray said about the backstage moment. “The WWE got this very, very, very right when it comes to the push, the trajectory of Oba Femi up and to this point. And make no mistake, none of this happens without Brock Lesnar’s blessings.”
