Chelsea Green wants to start a family with husband Matt Cardona soon
Chelsea Green is at a point in life where she’d be thrilled to start a family with her husband Matt Cardona.
At SummerSlam, Green won a five-way ladder match to become the interim WWE Women’s Champion. She spoke with Nikki Bella after the PLE for an interview on The Nikki & Brie Show — and Green opened up about wanting to start a family. She put off the goal earlier in life to prioritize her career goals. Now, Green would be “so happy” if she were to get pregnant.
“I’m 35, Nikki. I’ve told you this, I want to start a family,” Green said. “Matt and I, we’ve started this new era of like, when we get annoyed with each other, it’s more of like, ‘No, you need to change this because when we have kids, you cannot be doing that.’ Like, I’ll do it all the time. This poor man is so sick of it.
“But, you know, I’m 35, I wanted to have kids five years ago before I came back. And we decided together that I would come back to WWE so that I wouldn’t have any resentment towards us and our future family. But now, I’ve done the thing [won the interim WWE Women’s Championship]. So if it happens, like, God willing, I would be so — I would be so happy.”
Cardona returned to WWE at the start of 2026 and is on the SmackDown roster with Green.
Chelsea Green’s injury —
This interview on The Nikki & Brie Show was recorded prior to the injury Green suffered on SmackDown last Friday. Green has a broken orbital bone and doesn’t yet know what the injury will mean for her or her title reign.
Both Rhea Ripley (the WWE Women’s Champion) and Green (the interim champion) are now dealing with injuries. Ripley has undergone knee surgery for the torn meniscus that has sidelined her since June.
