AEW Dark Elevation results: Jack Evans vs. Matt Sydal

It’s Monday and you know what that means: time for a twelve-match AEW Dark: Elevation with several debuts.

FTR defeated Royce Isaacs and Jorel Nelson

It’s impossible for FTR to have a bad match. This was a solid opener and served to build FTR’s record ahead of their future battle against Ortiz and Santana. FTR won by submission with a reverse figure four from Dax Hardwood to Isaacs. FTR ran their career AEW record to 18-1 with that one loss being last November's Tag Team title losing defeat to the Young Bucks.

Nyla Rose (w/ Vickie Guerrero) defeated Delmi Exo

As usual, Guerrero came out to introduce Rose and to bury Justin Roberts. This was another squash match for Rose who won with the Beast Bomb in a matter of seconds, her tenth straight win.

The Acclaimed defeated Baron Black and Tamilian Vineesh

Once again, the intro rap for The Acclaimed was great. Black tried to attack Caster out of nowhere, but Anthony Bowens prevented it. Black was really good in this match as everything he did looked great. The Acclaimed won with a combination of the S4 (new finisher) and the Mic Drop, their fourth straight win.

Varsity Blonds (w/ Julia Hart) defeated Bums R'Us

This was the AEW brian debut of Bums R’Us and my god, that’s the best name I’ve ever heard for a tag team. The Bums worked as the heels as you might expect. The Blonds won after a high dropkick from Pillman Jr. He and Griff Garrison remain in the number one spot in the rankings.

Kris Statlander (w/ Orange Cassidy and Best Friends) defeated Renee Michelle

This was Michelle’s fifth match for AEW and her best showing so far. Since her return, Statlander has looked so much better in the ring. The "Alien from the Andromeda Galaxy" won after the Big Bang Theory. She is now 8-0 this year, remaining undefeated since her return from injury. I would not be surprised if she’s the next person to challenge Women’s Champion Britt Baker once her feud with Rose is over.

Matt Hardy (w/ HFO) defeated Jora Johl

Johl is the former Robo The Punjabi Lion who made his AEW debut last month and is 0-2 thus far. Hardy made several nods to Christian Cage who he is currently feuding with. Hardy won with a Twist of Fate in a fine match and with no interference from the Hardy Family Office. Afterward, Hardy offered Johl a spot in the HFO as his personal assistant and later, Johl cut a backstage promo about considering the offer.

Shawn Spears and Wardlow defeated Ryzin and Kal Herro

If you love fanny packs and late 80s nostalgia, you are going to love Herro. Spears wrestled in a more aggressive style for several weeks and it’s working for him big time. He and Wardlow won by ref stoppage when Wardlow used the Casualty of War. AEW has done a good job making that a strong finisher.

Powerhouse Hobbs defeated Darien Bengston

Earlier on the show, Hobbs and Taz had a backstage promo talking about Hangman Page and Saturday's Dynamite match. This was Bengston's AEW debut. Hobbs won with a sideways slam in a quick squash, running his 2021 record to 9-1.

Jade Cargill (w/ "Smart" Mark Sterling) defeated Robyn Renegage

Before the match started, Sterling announced that Cargill is the new face of the Black News Channel of which Shad Khan is a real-life investor. This was a squash match that Cargill won with Jaded, remaining undefeated at 7-0.

Penta El Zero Miedo and Eddie Kingston (w/ Alex Abrahantes) defeated Vary Morales and Fuego Del Sol

This was the second time Morales and Del Sol have worked as a tag team. This was a really fun match, but unfortunately, it was another unsuccessful night for the top luchador from Alabama and Morales. Penta won this match with a cross armbreaker. Penta and Kingston are now 2-0 as a tag team.

Jungle Boy (w/ Jurassic Express) defeated Cezar Bononi (w/ The Wingmen)

This match served as a preview for Jungle Boy's AEW World title match against Kenny Omega this Saturday. No surprise, he looked great here again and has improved so much as a wrestler since joining the roster. Bononi was good in his role as a monster and this was one of his better AEW showings. Jungle Boy won this match with a running back clothesline and goes into Saturday with a record of 16-6 this year.

Matt Sydal (w/ Mike Sydal) defeated Jack Evans (w/ Angelico & Matt Hardy)

Earlier on the show, Matt Sydal had a backstage promo with Tony Schiavone wanting retribution from last week’s Elevation when Evans' partner Angelico attacked his brother, Mike, at Hardy's direction following Angelico's win.

This match was fun as expected as it was two pros doing their thing. If you are a Dragon Gate fan, you would have loved Paul Wight making a reference to their past during the match. Sydal won this match with a Here We Go driver to avenge last week's attack.

Final Thoughts:

This was a good episode of Elevation as everything was to the point and delivered. Jungle Boy vs. Bononi actually overdelivered and is a match worth checking out, but the match of the night was the main event between Sydal and Evans.
