AEW tag team member reveals scrapped CM Punk match

Cash Wheeler revealed details of a scrapped match with CM Punk in AEW while discussing plans on pursuing a singles career.

Wheeler gave insight on LNG Productions about the suggestions and pitches to compete as a singles wrestler. He cited a preference to team with Dax Harwood to prevent a physical strain on his body. Wheeler proceeded to talk about a scrapped match with Punk that he ended up having with Penta in AEW instead.

“There are times where I kind of get the maybe I should do a singles match here or there so Dax doesn’t have to do as much and put a toll on his body. But there’s been a couple times where I was supposed to wrestle Punk in the singles, but I want to say it was right after we had the stuff with The Briscoes and Punk or The (Young) Bucks, I think.”

“I was like I don’t know if me wrestling as a heel in a singles match is the way to follow up on all this stuff right now, and everyone agreed and it was like ‘alright’. I think he ended up wrestling Penta instead, that was probably the better call anyway because I think Penta’s a great performer.”

Wheeler laid out his plans to compete as a singles wrestler on the indies after FTR is done as a tag team in their career.

“But I just, I do want to do some singles here and there, but I also think that’ll probably be an indie run once I’m done, like we’re done as FTR because I don’t know if I’ve ever said this online so if I have sorry for repeating but I don’t think I’ll ever officially retire from wrestling but I will officially retire from TV wrestling because I just want to go back to doing shows that feel like Philadelphia where it’s just for the just for the sake of wrestling just for the heart and love of wrestling and pick and choose those and do those matches as singles.”

The two real-life friends teamed up on multiple occasions before signing with WWE in 2014. However, since then Wheeler and Harwood have complemented each other in the ring making them a notable tag team amid their ongoing run in AEW.
