AEW announces MJF-Mark Briscoe title match will open Dynamite

MJF vs. Mark Briscoe on Dynamite

Mark Briscoe has been waiting a long time for an AEW World Championship match against MJF. And now that he has earned one, he wants it as soon as possible.

Briscoe won a guaranteed championship match against MJF when his team beat the champion’s team in a steel cage match at Forbidden Door. Later in that show, it was announced the championship match would take place this Wednesday on Dynamite. And today, AEW announced the championship match would open the show

Briscoe made his championship aspirations known on the May 27 edition of Dynamite. MJF came out to celebrate regaining his championship from Darby Allin at Double or Nothing. Briscoe interrupted the occasion and challenged MJF to a title match, pointing out he had pinned MJF in a tables ’n’ tacks match at All Out last September.

MJF denied the challenge, claiming Briscoe was not championship material. Briscoe spent several weeks campaigning for a title match. Tony Khan eventually booked the Forbidden Door cage match. Briscoe pinned Jake Doyle (with an assist from Andrade, a member of MJF’s team who betrayed his comrades) to win the match and earn his title shot.
