Fresh off of a Vanderbilt (5) and Nebraska (4) buzzer beating barn burning bracket buster, it’s AEW Collision! Part 1 of 2 with the second instalment airing around this time Sunday night.
But before all that, it’s a quartet of great matchups starting with
TNT Championship: “The Protostar” Kyle Fletcher (c) vs. Robbie Eagles
Eagles was actually one of Fletcher’s trainers in Australia, so this would be a literal student vs master match.
The bell rang, Fletcher’s pants came off and the match was on. They locked up and Fletcher drover Eagles to the corner. The ref backed him off and Eagles grabbed a wristlock, bringing Fletcher to his knees. Fletcher countered, but Eagles countered that and flipped him onto his back.
They took a reset and locked up again with Eagles going for Fletcher’s ankle. Fletcher stopped him though and dropped him with a slam. Fletcher kicked Eagles and threw him against the ropes, but Eagles had it scouted and came off them with a big elbow.
He tried to take Fletcher’s legs out from underneath him, but Fletcher didn’t budge. Fletcher countered into a tilt-o-whirl backbreaker and side slam into a commercial break.
Back from break, Fletcher had Eagles on his knees, but Eagles was able to punch his way out of it and land a dropkick to Fletcher’s leg. Eagles kicked him in the chest, but Fletcher popped back up. Eagles ran the ropes for another dropkick, sending Fletcher to the corner.
Eagles went for a meteora, but Fletcher caught him and tried to hit a powerbomb. Eagles got out of it and slammed Fletcher’s head to the mat for a two count. He then started working the knee and leg of Fletcher, trying to take away his vertical.
Eagles continued to be fleet of foot and went up for a 450, but Fletcher moved. He caught Eagles off the bounce and slammed him hard for a two count. Fletcher started taunting Eagles who got fired up and threw a bunch of forearms. Fletcher hit a half and half suplex, but Eagles landed on his feet. He hit a dropkick and wrapped Fletcher’s leg in a reverse figure four.
Fletcher almost tapped, but made it to the rope to break the hold. He rolled out of the ring to recover and Eagles dove onto him before throwing him back into the ring. Eagles went up top again, but Fletcher met him there and the two tumbled down.
Eagles hit a suplex into the turnbuckle and then a 450 onto Fletcher’s damaged leg. Eagles went for a brainbuster, but Fletcher countered. Eagles hit a poisonrana and then a series of Pele kicks. Fletcher levelled him with a lariat and dropped him onto the turnbuckle. He picked up Eagles and spiked him with a brainbuster. He made the cover and 1-2-3 got the win.
Match Result: Kyle Fletcher defeated Robbie Eagles
-Backstage, Jon Moxley cut a promo about his feud with Will Osprey. He said if Osprey is determined to put himself back in the hospital, then they will help him out. Pac stepped forward and called Osprey a bastard. He said that he would love to get his grubby hands around Osprey’s neck and that was it.
LFI (Rush, Dralistico and The Beast Mortos) vs Alpha Zo, Dom Kubrick & Lucas Riley
I’ve been missing Rush in the ROH version of LFI, so it’s great to see him here. Rush will face Darby Allin on Dynamite on Wednesday, just in case that kind of thing interests you.
Dralistico started this match off against Riley and immediately isolated him in LFI’s corner. Rush tagged in an he and Mortos splashed him. Then all three hit a triple kick. Rush dragged Kubrick in and Zo got a head butt sending him to the outside. Dralistico dove onto them while rush delivered the horns in the corner to Riley.
Mortos hit a moonsault from the top rope onto Riley and that was it. Rush made the cover and LFI got the win.
Match Result: LFI defeated Alpha Zo, Dom Kubrick & Lucas Riley
Back from break, Lexy Nair interviewed Thekla who took credit for putting Toni Storm out of action. She said that Storm is faking so she doesn’t have to fight her again. Thekla put the whole locker room on notice that they had better “fake their own deaths” because fighting her would be worse.
Brawling Birds (Jamie Hayter and Alex Windsor) vs. Sisters of Sin (Julia Hart and Skye Blue)
Hayter kicked the match off against Hart, locking up and driving her to the ropes. Hayter picked her up for a back breaker and Windsor tagged in to hold her for a Hayer punch. Blue ran in to help, but Windsor stacked them up in the corner for chops. Hayter came back in for another double team and Windsor tried to pin Hart, who kicked out at two.
Blue and Windsor traded chops in the center of the ring with Blue getting thrown at the mat. She got back up and shoved her into the ropes where Hart kicked her in the head.
Back from break, Hart and Blue were double teaming Windsor. Windsor fought back and tried to backslide Blue, but no dice. Hayter, who was legal, hit a back breaker and tagged in Windsor offically. Hart and Blue went back to the double team, sending Hayter out so HArt could hit a blockbuster on her from the apron.
In the ring, Blue took on Windsor, but Windsor caught her knee and threw a lariat in the corner. She took Blue up top and they fought on the turnbuckle, with Blue coming on top and powerbombing her. Hart tagged in, but Windsor fought the two of them off and tagged in Hayter.
They double teamed Hart, setting her up for a Two Birds, One Stone. Hayter grabbed the pin and got the win for her team.
Match Result: Brawling Birds defeated Sisters of Sin
Backstage, Lexy Nair interviewed Brody King about his recent altercation with Swerve Strickland. King said that he is still on the hunt for championship gold, and their issue was far from over.
Death Riders (Daniel Garcia and Claudio Castagnoli) w/ Maria Shafir vs. Komander & Máscara Dorada
Komander is amazing at everything except spelling the word “commander” so teaming him with Dorada promises some fantastic stuff. Pitting them against the Death Riders? Even better. Castagnoli lost his CMLL World title to Hechicero last night, so he was in foul spirits as he and Garcia entered through the crowd.
Garcia faced off with Komander as the bell rang and the two locked up. Garcia overpowered Komander and threw him to the mat. Komander got right back up and grabbed a waistlock. Garcia reversed it ad they ran through a quick chain of holds.
Garcia got a little mouthy and Komander kicked him in the gut about it. Garcia came back with a levelling forearm that sent Komander tot he corner. Garcia chopped him, but Komander flipped out of the corner and grabbed a tag to Dorada. The Luchadores double teamed Garcia until he could scramble over and tag in Castagnoli.
Castagnoli took control, sending Dorada off the ropes. Dorada lured him in and then kicked him. Komander came in to help and they double dropkicked him out of the ring. Dorada dove over the top rope, but Castagnoli caught him and held him while Garcia hit him with a running knee.
The Death Riders worked over Komander during a commercial break and as the show returned, Garcia was hammering Komander with fists in the corner. Castagnoli contributed an uppercut while all Dorada could do was watch.
Castagnoli went to hoist Komander up, but Komander countered and threw a heel kick. Komander went off the top rope, but Castagnoli cauight him. Komander countered it into a facebuster, and crawled over to tag Dorada. Castagnoli brought Garcia in and Dorada worked him over.
Komander and Dorada walked the ropes and moonsaulted onto Garcia and Castagnoli in a really impressive display. Dorada hit a crucifix face buster on Garcia, but only got a two count. Komander came back in and then double teamed Garcia, but Castagnoli broke up the cover.
Castagnoli and Garcia began a double team beatdown of their own on Komander. Garcia left to deal with Dorada and Castagnoli traded shots with Komander in the ring. Komander hit a headscissor from the rop rope and almost got the win, but Castagnoli kicked out and got the big swing going.
Castagnoli spiked Komander with a pile driver while Garcia choked out Dorada on the outside. Castagnoli made the pin and the Death Riders got the victory as the hour came to a close.
Match Result: Death Riders defeated Komander & Máscara Dorada
