AEW reportedly discussing Matt Sydal’s return after two years

Matt Sydal AEW

AEW is reportedly considering Matt Sydal’s return for in-ring competition after his two-year absence.

According to Mike Johnson of PWInsider, there have been internal discussions in AEW to bring back Sydal in the near future. The wrestler has been out of in-ring action from the promotion for two years to recover from surgery on a long-term injury.

Sydal had undergone a surgery on his right foot in 2024 to correct a serious injury that stemmed from a motorcycle accident 12 years earlier. The medical procedure included breaking and re-fusing several bones, and inserting hardware to reset his toes into the joints.

Sydal, who made his AEW debut at All Out 2020 as a surprise entrant in the Casino Battle Royal, was sidelined with the injury for the past couple of years. Last year, on July 19, he returned to in-ring competition and faced Ultimo Dragon at a wrestling event in France. Meanwhile, his last AEW match was against Konosuke Takeshita on the May 22, 2024 edition of Dynamite.
