AEW Dynamite live results: Death Riders vs. Tanahashi & JetSpeed

The final AEW Dynamite before Forbidden Door takes place in Glasgow, Scotland and features a preview of Sunday’s pay-per-view.
Jon Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli, and Wheeler Yuta of Death Riders face Hiroshi Tanahashi, and Kevin Knight and Mike Bailey of JetSpeed in a six-man tag. Moxley and Castagnoli will be on one side of the Lights Out cage match at Forbidden Door, with Tana on the other team.
The finals of the AEW Tag Team title eliminator tournament will be held, with FTR facing Brodido. The winning team will challenge Bobby Lashley and Shelton Benjamin at Forbidden Door for the AEW Tag titles.

AEW Dynamite comes on the air with theme for Bryan Danielson hitting, as he’s welcomed to a huge ovation while he makes his way to join Excalibur & Tony Schiavone on commentary tonight. Will Ospreay’s theme then hits and it’s time to open the show with the face-off Ospreay requested last week.
Will Ospreay & Jon Moxley Face-To-Face
A speechless Ospreay took in the chants from the crowd before thanking them for cheering him up during one of the worst stretches of his life. Ospreay reminisced about the days when he wrestled in Scotland and loved the food, which got a Sausage Roll chant. Ospreay has grown up in front of these fans, thanking them for being his people. Ospreay said after what Death Riders did to him, it was the first time he’s felt human, as he always assumed he could get through wrestling unharmed, to the point where Taka Michinoku once called him an alien. Ospreay realized he’s going to have to travel down a road that many wrestlers have, as last week, he was told he wasn’t cleared for Forbidden Door. Lights Out Steel Cage means unsanctioned, it’s out of AEW’s hands, if he gets hurt, it’s no one’s fault but his own. Fans chanted Please Don’t Die, as Ospreay is aware of the risks, but AEW means so much to him. He’s here to prove a point that he’ll be the standard for these three letters. If there’s a chance he can’t be the same Will Ospreay after Sunday, he’s leaving it all out there come Forbidden Door. Ospreay is doing this all for revenge, as he’s entering the Lights Out Cage with 4 of his best friends wanting the same thing. Before doctors take a scalpel to him and his neck, he’s going to take a pound of flesh from Jon Moxley.
Right on cue, the music for Moxley hits and he walks into the arena with Marina Shafir by his side. Bryan Danielson said he promised Tony Khan he’d be a commentator, not seeking revenge for what Moxley did to him almost a year ago at WrestleDream. After an intense face-off, Claudio Castagnoli & Wheeler Yuta slowly join on the apron. Ospreay said if Moxley wants to get rid of him, don’t have his boys do it, do it yourself. Before Moxley could say anything, JetSpeed hit the ring and started fighting with Death Riders, as Ospreay left, while Hiroshi Tanahashi’s music hit and he came to the ring to kick off our opening contest.
Death Riders (Jon Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli & Wheeler Yuta) vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi & JetSpeed (Speedball Mike Bailey & Kevin Knight)
(To say this was chaotic would be an understatement, but then, what would you expect for the last push into a Lights Out Cage Match that guarantees nothing but chaos? Adding in War Dogs into the bunch leads me to believe we’re getting them vs. The Opps at the PPV, which should be a very solid Trios match. Commentary really drove home how fragile Ospreay’s neck was during that brawl, which should be a huge focal point come Sunday.)
Tanahashi & Moxley slugged it out right away before Death Riders made fast tags, keeping Tanahashi isolated early. Dragon Screw sent Yuta flying, as Bailey made the tag and lit up Yuta with kicks until a running Shooting Star got a near fall. Yuta dodged a high kick into an Angle Slam before tagging Castagnoli. Right in front of referee Bryce, Shafir swept Kevin Knight’s legs out from the apron and put the boots to him, resulting not in a DQ, but an ejection. Ospreay strolled out to the ramp and carried Shafir out with him, while a Giant Swing from Castagnoli on Bailey was broke up by Knight leaping over the swing into a dropkick as a huge springboard dive by Knight took things to commercial.
Despite having the advantage going into break, it was all Death Riders picking apart Knight during picture in picture. Finally, a huge dropkick to Castagnoli & thrust kick to Moxley led to a Tanahashi hot tag, as he flattened Yuta with a flying forearm and somersault senton off the second. Bailey sent Moxley outsider, where he hit a top rope springboard moonsault to the floor, as Knight flew in with a missile dropkick on Castagnoli. Sling Blade connected on Yuta, but Moxley & Castagnoli made the save, only to be cut off by JetSpeed and we got a three-way Twist & Shout. Bullet Club War Dogs Gabe Kidd, Drilla Moloney, Clark Connors & Robbie X all ran to ringside to run distraction, as Tanahashi was crotched on the top rope. Cameras cut to Will Ospreay walking back out with presumably Marina Shafir over his shoulder in a body bag. Everyone was distracted, allowing JetSpeed to take out Castagnoli & Moxley with double dives, while Tanahashi hit a High Fly Flow on Yuta for the win.
Post-match, War Dogs & Death Riders attacked Tanahashi & JetSpeed in the ring, while The Young Bucks appeared and laid out Ospreay on the ramp with a superkick. Roderick Strong & Kyle O’Reilly made the save and brawled with The Bucks to the back, as Death Riders came up to make the save for who they thought was Shafir in the body bag, but it was Darby Allin, who exploded out and he pounced on Castagnoli. The Opps showed up and brawled with War Dogs, as it’s all out chaos, with everyone spilling into the crowd. A giant pile of bodies continues to brawl until Allin flew in with a massive Coffin Drop onto all the heels. The Opps, Ospreay & Allin head back to the ring to stand tall with Tanahashi & JetSpeed, as Death Riders & War Dogs are forced to furiously regroup.
Match Result: Hiroshi Tanahashi & JetSpeed defeated Death Riders when Tanahashi pinned Yuta

Adam Copeland & Christian Cage Reunite
Tony Schiavone first welcomes Copeland out and the Scottish crowd sang his theme loudly until Cage’s music hit and he joined in the ring. Danielson said last week, he saw one man hug another and one didn’t seem to reciprocate, that being Cage, who he doesn’t know if he’s all in for this reunion. Cage said first things first, Glasgow needs to sit down and shut up, but Copeland ripped the mic away asking why he’s still got to do that, the fans love them, they’re one of the greatest teams of all time, but admits Cage is an asshole. Except Copeland admits, Cage is his asshole.
Schiavone asks if Cage has found himself and Cage admits he’s done just that. Cage found that he’s perfect just the way he is, he doesn’t have to change a thing. People might wonder if Copeland & Cage are on the same page and they are not, not by a long shot, as there’s a lot of scar tissue. They might be on the different page, but they’re at least in the same book. Cage said this is a reunion of necessity, as Copeland helps Cage with his Nick & Kip problem, while Cage can help with Copeland’s FTR problem. While Cage’s word hasn’t meant much in the past, Cage will look at Copeland and say he’ll be the best tag team partner he’s ever had. They shake hands until Kip Sabian & Mother Wayne walk to the stage.
Sabian said it’s pathetic Cage is seeking admiration from the people he once despised? Shayna asked how dare they boo not just a mother, but the Mother of The Prodigy, Nick Wayne. Nick is shown on the big screen with crutches in hand, saying last Wednesday, Cage saved Copeland, but he wasn’t far behind. While Cage swung that spiked board last week, in dodging him, Nick broke his foot. Cage took Forbidden Door away from him, a night he would’ve made a reunion into a farewell tour, embarrassing them and taking Cage’s career from him. It’s a blessing in disguise he won’t be there Sunday, but tells Cage he’s always one step ahead.
A video plays on the big screen of Killswitch seemingly coming back to life, as he then power walks to the ring with Sabian & Shayna. Cage clotheslined Sabian over the top, not realizing Killswitch laid out Copeland with a chokeslam. Cage & Killswitch had a stare down with the crowd chanting Luchasaurus, as Killswitch was about to walk off, when he turned back and laid out Cage as well with a chokeslam. Killswitch stood tall with Sabian & Shayna over a fallen Copeland & Cage, as we’re told it’s official, Killswitch replaces Nick in the tag match at Forbidden Door.
-Mark Briscoe is frantically pacing around backstage and told the camera man he flew all the way to Scotland to make sure MJF doesn’t make it to Forbidden Door, he’s going to kill him.
**********
-Ricochet is backstage with The Gates of Agony and are immediately interrupted by MJF, who said bald people and the thought of being bald freak him out, but he’s here to conduct business. While he doesn’t like Ricochet, the enemy of my enemy is his friend and wants them to help him take out Mark Briscoe. Ricochet said he’d love to see MJF run around like a chicken with his head cut off, but admits he has an issue still with Briscoe and accepts his offer. They shake hands until MJF tells the camera to shut off.
FTR (Dax Harwood & Cash Wheeler w/Stokely) vs. Brodido (Brody King & ROH Champion Bandido) in the Finals of the AEW Tag Team Title Eliminator Tournament
(One hell of a tag match, a Dynamite classic, as the fans ramped up as time continued to tick down. I had no idea which team would take this initially, but turned out, both would be the correct answer. My one complaint is, yet another three-way for the Tag Titles on a PPV. I’m sure it’ll be a great match, but I wonder if this is the time we get new champs and if this is a way for The Syndicate to lose without taking an actual pin, which I’m sure would do wonders for online rumors.)
Stokely still has the mask of Bandido they stole from last week on Collision, as Danielson said FTR is probably the greatest tag team of his generation. Bandido & Harwood kick things off with a much slower pace than you’d expect, as each were jockeying for position with multiple shoulder tackles, headlock takedowns and leg sweep attempts leading to a stalemate. Wheeler tagged in, as Bandido started to ramp up, teased a dive, but FTR ran for higher ground. Harwood tried throwing in multiple chairs, but referee Paul Turner impressively caught both of them. The Hurt Syndicate were watching backstage, as King tagged in, rag dolled Wheeler, but as Harwood hit a piledriver, King no sold, stacked FTR on top of each other and hit a huge running senton. Cazadora Splash combo by Brodido got a near fall, as Wheeler saved his partner, while Stokely cracked King in the head with a pipe that he had hidden in his sling. Harwood scolded the crowd to show Stokely respect as things went to break, while King is now bleeding from the pipe shot.
It was all FTR during break, but when things returned, King immediately made a hot tag to Bandido, who ran wild. Code Red got a close near fall on Harwood, as Bandido sent both men crashing outside, leading to an attempted dive, only FTR caught Bandido in the air and slammed him face first on the apron. Bandido remained isolated, while King continued pouring blood on the apron, wanting a tag. Harwood wanted a superplex, but Bandido relentlessly chopped free and hit a high cross body for two with things heading to a second commercial.
We’re welcomed back to a Bandido double hurricanrana and DDT with King finally able to make the tag to a huge pop. Chops and forearms dished out aplenty. Big cannonball senton in the corner led to King floating over in his corner, blind tag from Bandido, as King took out FTR with a somersault senton off the apron, as Bandido flew in with a dive. Harwood sent back inside, as Wheeler was squished with a King cross body against the barricade. Referee sees Stokely try to trip up Bandido, but did nothing, as Bandido kicked him away and got back the mask Stokely stole, putting it on and hitting a Frog Splash on Harwood for two. Wheeler escaped a King powerslam outside, posted King and hit a Tornado DDT off the apron. FTR wanted the Power-Plex, but King choked Wheeler off the apron. The Hurt Syndicate looked annoyed backstage, as Shelton Benjamin & Bobby Lashely walked off. King was crotched in the corner, as Harwood hit a back superplex, as Wheeler flew in with a splash for a close two, as Danielson lost his mind on commentary.
Arkady Aura told us 25 minutes have passed, right as King ate a Shatter Machine, only FTR missed the blind tag. Bandido flew in with a Victory Roll on Wheeler for two, then a wonky La Magistral attempt for another near fall. FTR hit an inverted Doomsday Device, but Bandido kicked out. King saved Bandido from Shatter Machine, as he tried choking Harwood off the apron before both slugged it out. Wheeler made the save, leading to a Spike Piledriver on the edge of the ring. Before FTR could regroup, Bandido flew in with a huge Moonsault onto the floor, as 2 minutes were left. Bandido missed a moonsault, rolled through, nearly took Shatter Machine, but countered into a DDT on Wheeler, who saved his partner from taking a 21-Plex. Harwood made the save as well, leading to Shatter Machine, but King just broke it up. 1 minute call, as FTR now opts to set a table up against the barricade for some reason. Wheeler was about to hit a dive onto Bandido, but King ran in, shoved his partner out of the way and Wheeler crashed and burned as the time expired. Bandido still hit a 21-Plex on Harwood for good measure, tried to make the cover, but it was too late. Aura told us Tony Khan made it official, both teams will advance to face The Hurt Syndicate at Forbidden Door.
On cue, Lashley & Benjamin walk out to the stage and hold their Tag Titles up with Brodido & FTR looking on exhausted.
Match Result: FTR vs. Brodido went to a 30 Minute Time Limit Draw with both teams advancing to Forbidden Door

MJF Gets What He Wants from Hangman Adam Page
The AEW World Champion power walked to the ring to a huge ovation from the Scotland crowd. Page said he was attacked last week in the parking lot by MJF, which is how MJF likes to handle things, opportunistic. If MJF ever had a problem in his life, he can’t look at it head on, he doesn’t have the balls to do it. It’s a waste of everyone’s time to call MJF to the ring to get the piss beaten out of him, as he’s a gutless coward. Once MJF signed that Casino Gauntlet contract, there will be no backstabbing, Page swears to God he’ll shove his ostrich leathers up MJF’s checkered print ass.
MJF’s music hits, but he never appeared, as Tony Schiavone stood up and said he was told MJF has a message for Page backstage. According to MJF, if Page leaves the ring, something bad is going to happen. MJF is on the big screen and reminded Seabiscuit that he’s most vulnerable when he’s angry. Ricochet & The Gates of Agony are shown with Mark Briscoe, who is tied up and barely conscious. MJF said Page will give him what he wants and has three simple requests. MJF lifts a can of gas saying if Page doesn’t give him what he wants, Briscoe will be Kentucky Fried. MJF said at Forbidden Door, the title can change hands due to DQ, Count-Out and finally, he doesn’t have to use his Casino Gauntlet contract for the match. Bishop Kaun hands MJF a lighter and said Page has until the count of 5. MJF gets to 4 and Page caves and accepts saying congratulations, Hangman is still a hero. Page grabs a chair and charges backstage as things go to break.
**********
-Returning from commercial, Page power walked backstage, found Ricochet, cracking him in the back with a chair, demanding where MJF is at? Security runs in and tells Page that MJF has left, as Page laid out some of security before leaving the arena, while the Gates of Agony were late to the draw saving Ricochet. Bryan Danielson on commentary said there’s nothing scarier than a determined and vengeful Hangman Page and Excalibur tells us how stacked the deck has become for this Sunday.
AEW Women’s Champion Timeless Toni Storm & Alex Windsor vs. ROH Women’s Champion Athena & TBS Champion Mercedes Mone
(I thought this was a very solid main event, with this being a strong indication of what we’re going to get for the Women’s & TBS Title matches. Athena continues to get one over on Storm, while Mone now knows all of her challengers, with the addition of the impressive Bozilla from STARDOM added to the fold. They’ve done a really good job of making Athena’s finisher being able to be hit out of nowhere and you add to that Storm’s neck issues, it could spell trouble for the AEW Women’s Champion on Sunday.)
CMLL representative Persephone was shown watching from the crowd, as we’re told Bozilla will be the representative for STARDOM at the Forbidden Door TBS Title 4-Way. Fast start for Windsor on Mone to kick things off, as Mone responded with multiple springboard arm drags. Windsor rolled through a cross body, powered Mone up into a Fall Away Slam, throwing Mone right to Storm, who gave Mone a good whiff before channeling Fat Bastard, demanding Mone get in her belly. A freaked out Mone tagged Athena, who floated over a hip toss into a spinning arm drag before mocking Storm’s pose. Storm hit multiple trips, snap dropkick and backbreaker before tagging back in Windsor. Mone saved Athena from a double suplex, but Storm & Windsor hit a dueling corner splash and headbutts until Storm missed an assisted hip attack. Mone teased a dive, but Storm put on the brakes, grabbing Mone by the chest. Athena demanded Mone get it together, as she lowered the ropes, allowing Athena to hit a wild dive on Windsor, smacking her own head into the commentary table. Mone did her dance on the apron, but Storm sent her flying with a hip attack. Storm tried a DDT off the apron on Athena, who just slammed Storm down violently. Windsor was able to hit a running senton off the apron onto Athena & Mone, as all ladies were down heading to break.
Windsor was worked over the entire commercial, as things returned with her ducking an Athena forearm, which Mone took by mistake. This allowed a Storm hot tag, as Mongolian Chops were dished out in bunches before a Thesz Press took out Athena, as did a Fisherman’s Suplex for two. Almost a Tango Judas Effect from Storm & Windsor, as a short arm lariat followed by Windsor, but Athena kicked out. Storm tagged back in, wanted a Spike Storm Zero, but Mone sent Windsor crashing off the top rope. Athena got a jackknife pin attempt, Storm kicked out, but Mone made the blind tag. Lungblower/Backstabber combo from Athena & Mone, but Windsor made the save. Mone took too long mocking Windsor and missed a Meteora, as Storm was able to hit a Tornado DDT to spike Athena.
Windsor made the hot tag, delivering a series of misdirect clotheslines to Mone before kipping up into a leg sweep and short lariat for two. Mone kicked free, but ran into a Blue Thunder Bomb, which Athena broke up. Storm briefly got the TCM Chicken Wing, but both spilled outside, where Athena hit a Storm Zero on Storm on the ring steps. Series of reversals by Windsor & Mone, who didn’t see Athena make the blind tag. Windsor laid out Mone with a Samoan Drop, sank in the Scorpion Death Lock, as Mone tapped, but referee Aubrey had to tell Windsor that Mone wasn’t legal. Athena flew in with an O-Face and pinned Windsor.
Post-match, the doctor tended to Storm, who was clutching her neck, while Mone held her TBS Title in the face of Persephone, who pie-faced Mone to the ground. Windsor also stared down Persephone, while Billie Starkz celebrated with Athena & Mone on the ramp to end the show.
