AEW Dynamite live results: Moxley vs. Castagnoli Continental Classic bout
The Continental Classic rolls on tonight on AEW Dynamite with a key Blue League matchup between stablemates.
Death Riders Jon Moxley and Claudio Castagnoli will go one-on-one in the C2 Blue League on the show. Both won their opening matches in the round robin tournament on last week’s Dynamite and are tied for the Blue lead with 3 points. Tension has been subtly building between Castagnoli and Moxley in recent weeks with Castagnoli frustrated at Moxley’s loss to Kyle O’Reilly at Full Gear in particular.
Two more Continental Classic matches are also set for the show, both in the Gold League. PAC (3 points) will face Kazuchika Okada in one bout, while Kyle Fletcher (3 points) and Kevin Knight (3 points) meet in the other Gold League contest.
A faceoff between AEW World Champion Samoa Joe and his Winter is Coming title challenger Eddie Kingston is also set for tonight. Joe defends against Kingston on next Wednesday’s show.
Also set, Toni Storm and Mina Shirakawa take on Marina Shafir and Megan Bayne in a hardcore holiday death match in the semifinals of the AEW Women’s Tag Team title tournament semifinals.

AEW Dynamite comes on the air with Excalibur welcoming us alongside Bryan Danielson as he throws it to Tony Schiavone in the ring, who said this upcoming face-off is so volatile that everyone is banned from ringside ahead of their match next week at Winter Is Coming.
Samoa Joe & Eddie Kingston Face-to-Face
Joe immediately told Schiavone to get out of the ring before he snatches the wig off his head. Joe bets Kingston is filled with questions that need answering, like why he’s not out here in a three-piece suit? Once he landed in his private jet, he realized wearing a suit in Indiana is like wearing a tuxedo to a petting zoo and fans are too stupid to realize they’re in the presence of greatness. Next, why HOOK and why Kingston? HOOK grew up with a championship legacy and Joe wanted him to have a complete education, so he wanted HOOK to spend time on the other side of the table, where Kingston sat. Kingston has never gotten it done nor crossed the finish line. The last question is what is going to happen next week? Kingston will fight his ass off and bring everything to the table to capture the title, but he’ll fail like every other time. Joe told Kingston to have the consolation knowing Joe choked him out.
Kingston said he couldn’t get over the fact that Samoa Joe, someone who once saved the independents with one of the greatest title reigns in history, feuding with his friend Homicide and he’s talking about private jets? Everyone in the back talks about Kingston is a hot head, but he gets sh*t done when he says he will. The Joe in front of him isn’t the Joe he respects, the one he respects is who ran through the entire World to show what it’s like to be a Heavyweight Champion. Joe is becoming what he hated all those years ago. Kingston said he knows the fans are here to see wrestling and he wants to go back to the hotel to sleep. If Joe doesn’t bring the Samoan Submission Machine, the Joe who was Kingston’s mentor for years, then he’ll eat Joe alive at Winter Is Coming. Kingston left and Joe was visibly annoyed. This felt like only a preview of what these two could be capable of in a promo battle. I hope next week isn’t just a one and done with these two. The crowd loves Kingston, having him just fall out of the title picture in one week would be ridiculous in my opinion.
-The Opps are backstage and HOOK said Joe handled business tonight, come next week, he’ll finish Kingston off. Powerhouse Hobbs said there’s business to take care of tonight, so they’ll sprinkle some holiday cheer. Last night on Ring of Honor, a Trio impressed them, Dark Order, if they can survive tonight against The Opps, then they’ll get a Trios Title match. HOOK said they know Dark Order are Hangman Page’s good friends, so they’ll have fun out there with them tonight and called them light work.
PAC (3) vs. Kazuchika Okada (0) in a Continental Classic Gold League Match
(While this didn’t compare to their classic at Dynasty 2024, this was still a very solid opening contest. I do like that the early loss by Okada could be a nice callback to future losses down the line in this C2. I’d love to see these two go at it again once the Gold League starts to pan out.)
PAC went right after the leg of Okada, allowing for a huge shotgun dropkick and kip up, impressing even Don Callis, who is on commentary. PAC tried a home run lariat, but Okada quickly took a powder, pulled PAC outside and drove him into the barricade. Okada slowly picked PAC apart back inside, but PAC turned the tables and raked the face of Okada with his boot and gained control heading into break.
It was all PAC during commercial and remained so when things returned, until Okada fired off a John Woo dropkick for the double down. Leaping corner uppercut and DDT spiked PAC, who kicked out at two. Okada went up top for the zero-elevation elbow drop before flipping the crowd off, wanted a Rainmaker, but was backed into the corner. PAC charged, Okada tried an Air Raid Crash, but PAC escaped, punt kicked Okada through the ropes and followed with a slingshot Cutter. PAC built up a head of steam for his lariat, only to be cut-off with an Okada dropkick. PAC countered a Rainmaker into a Cazadora pin for a close two (same way Okada lost last week), but Okada popped up, ran into a boot, as PAC threw a thrust kick. Bounce back German suplex from the corner led to a deadlift German for a near fall. However, PAC took too long to follow-up and Okada answered with a desperation Tombstone for the double down. Okada was cut-off on the top rope by a PAC superplex, locked on the Brutalizer momentarily, only Okada countered into a roll-up for the flash pin.
Match Result: Kazuchika Okada (3) defeated PAC (3) to earn 3 points in the Continental Classic Gold League
-Mark Briscoe is backstage and said about a year ago Daniel Garcia faced off twice, where each won one. Briscoe’s main take away is that Garcia is the real deal, but here we are a year later and how things have changed. Now, Briscoe is champion, while his opinion of Daniel isn’t what it once was, as he’s falling into a Death Rider death spiral. Now Garcia is playing mind games and Jon Moxley-isms, so he went to Tony Khan and told him to make a match between the two. Khan agreed and made the match official for Cardiff next Saturday for Collision Winter is Coming.
-Earlier today Ricochet & Gates of Agony are backstage and Ricochet said he’s had to keep his phone on silent because promoters have been ringing his phone off the hook calling him to save their company. What Ricochet is known for is his charity work, so this Friday, he’ll make his ROH debut at Final Battle and defend his AEW National Title against former ROH Champion Dalton Castle. Ricochet promises to stay in town and defend his title on Collision as well. If you don’t follow Demands, you get put down.

-Renee Paquette is backstage with The Conglomeration & Roderick Strong and said on Collision this Saturday is Orange Cassidy vs. Strong in the Blue League. Retributionfication is the Word of the Day by Mark Briscoe, but before he could get going, Strong yells that he’s not in The Conglomeration and he’ll beat Cassidy’s ass and win the Continental Classic. Cassidy told Briscoe to tell him about Conglomeration Rules, No Chops. Strong told Cassidy he’s going to break his back and stormed out. Briscoe, Willow Nightingale & Harley Cameron all went after him, as Cassidy stood with Paquette and just shrugged.
-We see footage of Darby Allin at the hospital following his C2 match with Kevin Knight last week and they hope to have an update on his status in the tournament going forward this Saturday on Collision.
Kyle Fletcher (3) vs. Kevin Knight (3) in a Continental Classic Gold League Match
(Hell of a match between these two, as Fletcher is a favorite in the Gold League, but Knight has already cemented himself as the crowd favorite, as there were times the fans were on their feet, biting at the false finishes. I can only hope this will be the first of many matches we see between these two, as Fletcher is already a star, while Knight is right where Fletcher was a year ago this time and certainly has potential to be a top guy himself.)
Nice opening sequence of mat wrestling and scrambles by both, leading to Fletcher standing tall and just lightly booting Knight in the face. Once they scrapped again, it was Knight on top and he mocked Fletcher’s pose. Quick arm-drags by Knight, as Fletcher bailed outside to avoid a dropkick. Don Callis said Knight is the only person who could match Fletcher’s athleticism, but in the end, it won’t matter, as Fletcher will be too much for him. Back inside, Knight used his speed to send Fletcher right back out, missed a slingshot dive, as Fletcher caught him with a leg lariat off the apron. Knight escaped a powerbomb on the apron and turned it into a leaping kick followed by a huge slingshot lariat to the floor. Knight was in firm control heading to break.
Fletcher was back in the drivers seat during commercial, but Knight threw a wild dropkick into the double down. Knight ramps up right hands and lariats before kipping up for his leaping hurricanrana out of the corner. Pendulum DDT planted Fletcher for a near fall, as Knight got a sunset flip for another two count. Knight tried another DDT, but Fletcher countered into a brutal Lawn Dart and Helluva Kick. Knight fought out of a Brainbuster and connected on a high elevation springboard clothesline for the closes near fall of the match. Both men fought on the apron, where Knight spiked Fletcher with a DDT, as quickly back inside, Knight took too long to go for a UFO Splash and was cut-off. Fletcher wanted his Avalanche Brainbuster, but Knight floated over, trapped Fletcher in the Tree of Woe and hit the Coast to Coast. Knight tried the UFO Splash again, but Fletcher got the knees up and cradle, only Knight kicked out. Massive Liger Bomb connected, but again, Knight was out at two. Brainbuster countered into a Knight cradle for two, as Knight popped up, only to be leveled with a boot and Sheer Drop Brainbuster for the pin.
Post-match, Callis took the mic in the ring and said he has something important to say about The Young Bucks, but first, you’ll hear from Fletcher. Josh Alexander & Hechicero come to the ring with bags in hand. Fletcher said he’s not feeling the greatest after that match and Callis took the mic, but they just went to commercial and we’ll pick it up after the break.
Match Result: Kyle Fletcher (6) defeated Kevin Knight (3) to earn 3 points in the Continental Classic Gold League
**********
Don Callis told The Young Bucks he can forgive a lot, like lying and cheating, even killing someone, but not siding with Kenny Omega. Callis said he has The Bucks money and knows Omega won’t finance them, so if they don’t like it, the first time in their lives, let their nuts drop and try to take it. Matt & Nick Jackson come out from the back, as Callis bailed and The Bucks immediately drop everyone with superkicks and Fletcher with a BTE Trigger. Matt quickly grabbed a bag, but before he could open it, Kazuchika Okada hit the ring and gave him a Rainmaker. Nick had a face-off with Okada, who flipped him off and The Family attacked.
Jurassic Express rushed the ring to make the save and clean house, as Jack Perry did the assisted rope walk moonsault onto Alexander & Hechicero, while Okada kicked Luchasarus low. Perry got in for a face-off with Okada, who flipped him off as well, only Perry bit the finger. El Clon & Mark Davis hit the ring to attack, as the numbers became too much. Callis came into the ring and started punching Matt repeatedly as Okada, Davis & Alexander held Nick as Callis was about to go for his eye. Kenny Omega’s music played and he hit the ring and cleaned house with V-Triggers until he ducked an Okada Rainmaker and hit a Snap Dragon. Omega went for a home run V-Trigger, but Okada quickly bailed out. The Bucks, Jurassic Express & Omega stood tall, as The Callis Family bailed down the aisle, as they got both bags of cash still in their possession. I should point out that Omega was rocking one hell of a Christmas sweater.
-Video package on Babes of Wrath and their history as a team is shown. Harley Cameron wrestled Willow Nightingale in her second ever match (which was on AEW Dark) and now they are one win away from becoming inaugural Women’s Tag Champions.
The Timeless Love Bombs (Timeless Toni Storm & Mina Shirakawa) vs. The MegaProblems (Marina Shafir & Megan Bayne w/Penelope Ford) in a Hardcore Holiday Death AEW Women’s Tag Team Title Semifinal Match
Storm & Shirakawa hit the ring and laid out both Shafir & Bayne with a DDT, then a Tornado variety off the apron to the floor. Storm waffled Shafir with a champagne bottle and started stabbing Bayne in the head with it before Shirakawa came in wielding a giant candy cane and used it to assist in a Sling Blade. We see the candy cane is wrapped in barbed wire, as Shafir is seen bleeding from the bottle shot. Assisted spinning slam by Storm & Shirakawa, who tried a double suplex, but Bayne countered into a suplex of her own, only Shirakawa especially landed really awkwardly on her wrist. Shafir pulled Storm to the floor, as Bayne completely launched Shirakawa from the ring to the floor onto Storm heading to break.
Back from break, Shafir is cracking Shirakawa in the ribs with a frying pan, while Bayne is lighting up Storm with clubbing shots to the chest. Storm is ping-ponged between pan and chair shots, until Storm ducks and the heels collide. Shirakawa flies in with a dropkick off the top, driving the chair into Bayne’s face. Storm quickly brought Bayne to the apron and Storm Zero off it through a table. Shafir wrapped her fists in tape and sank in Mothers Milk on Shirakawa, who faded until Storm threw a broken pool cue to Shirakawa, who stabbed Shafir in the head and got a Jackknife pin for two. Shirakawa hit her spinning backfist and got an assisted cross body on Shafir outside.
Back inside, Storm set Shafir up for Shirakawa to hit a diving Sling Blade onto a chair, but Bayne broke up the pin. Shirakawa wanted a suplex through a table propped up in the corner, but Shafir countered into a snap suplex, allowing Bayne to Spear Shirakawa through the table. Storm returned, tried a German on Bayne, but Shafir made the save with a chair shot to the back. Bayne tried Fate’s Decent into Mother’s Milk, but Storm escaped and gave Bayne a Storm Zero on the mid-section of Shafir. All of a sudden Santa Claus comes to the ring and had a gift in hand. Shafir tried to rip the package away, but Santa gave her a middle finger and revealed himself to be Luther. Storm spiked Shafir on her noggin with a German, as Luther gave Storm a shoe, which she promptly stabbed Shafir in the head with and got a Big Package for the win.
Post-match, Luther picked up Storm to carry her out, but Storm was put down and she carried Shirakawa out herself. We’re told the Finals of the Women’s Tag Team Title Tournament will be next week on Winter is Coming.
Match Result: The Timeless Love Bombs defeated The MegaProblems to advance in the AEW Women’s Tag Team Title Tournament when Storm pinned Shafir
-Video package on Kris Statlander & Jamie Hayter and Triangle of Madness was shown, as Hayter brought up beating up Julia Hart & Skye Blue in Cardiff at Winter is Coming, Statlander agrees, but Hayter said after, they can talk about a Title Match, as Hayter wants a title shot. Statlander agrees, but they also have Thekla waiting in the wings, who is safe to say will be involved as well.
-Dark Order is walking backstage and Evil Uno said this is a long time coming, if they win tonight, they get a title shot. Hangman Page storms by them, but Alex Reynolds stops him and said he knows Page wants The Opps blood, but owes it to them not to get involved in the match and let them earn their title shot. Page said fine, but after the match, he’s out for The Opps.
**********
-Renee Paquette gives a grand intro backstage to Mercedes Mone and said we haven’t seen her since she lost to Kris Statlander. Mone quickly cut Paquette off, took a long breath and said she’s PWI’s top wrestler of the year, 13 belts Mone, Ultimo Mone, does that sound like a failure? Mone complains about having to defend the ROH Women’s TV Title against Red Velvet, who she already beat. Mone said since Velvet says she never shows up to ROH, then Mone will show up tomorrow on ROH TV on Honor Club before Final Battle this Friday. There’s a price to pay when you talk down to Mone.
-Footage of The Bang Bang Gang calling out FTR for a Tag Team Title shot on Collision last week was shown. Juice Robinson & Austin Gunn pointed out how they beat FTR a few weeks ago and next time, the belts will be theirs, as they’re fighting for Colten Gunn & Jay White, who are both home injured.
FTR & Stokely are backstage and said The Bang Bang Gang doesn’t want to be champions for AEW and the future of this business, instead to pop the boys on the injured list? Cash Wheeler they’ll only be Billy’s Boy and Mr. Storm. Dax Harwood said Robinson now thinks he’s more than a bag carrier and is a big dog, while Austin will have a job forever thanks to his daddy. Harwood dares them to put their hands on him again this Saturday on Collision.
The Opps (Powerhouse Hobbs, Katsuyori Shibata & HOOK) vs. Dark Order (Evil Uno, John Silver & Alex Reynolds)
We’re told Alicia Atout will have a sit-down interview with HOOK on YouTube after Dynamite, explaining his actions. Excalibur told us it was a very revealing interview (which begs the question, why not show it on Dynamite, but I digress). The Opps attacked before the bell, as once the match officially began, Silver fired off a few kicks on HOOK, who immediately hit an overhead throw. Reynolds tried a dive, but was cut-off, while Uno was knocked from the top to the floor as The Opps stood tall heading into commercial.
Silver was worked over during break, but was able to make a hot tag to Uno, who ran wild with locomotion corner splashes and DDTs. Hobbs gets in and no sells Uno chops, so he just steamrolls over him with a Worlds Most Dangerous Slam. Silver & Reynolds make the save, but found themselves trapped in dueling Rear Naked Chokes on the apron by HOOK & Shibata. Hobbs planted Uno with a Spinebuster and got the pin.
Post-match, The Opps Dojo came to the ring to celebrate, but Hangman Adam Page came through the crowd with a chain in hand. After dispatching of the Dojo dorks, Shibata & Hobbs got decked with punches with the chain, but Shibata chop blocked the leg out and held Page, who ducked and Hobbs ran into his own partner. Page decked Hobbs with a bottle, tried a Buckshot, but Hobbs bailed right as security hit the ring. Page took out all four security guards, ending with a Buckshot to one as The Opps bailed. We never saw HOOK, who Danielson said just ran away during all of this. The crowd chanted for Swerve Strickland, but he didn’t show up.
Match Result: The Opps defeated Dark Order when Hobbs pinned Uno
-During the previous match, we were told that the Dynamite Diamond Battle Royale is returning on Dynamite Holiday Bash in 2 weeks. The Final will be on the Dynamite on 34th Street the following week and then at Maximum Carnage on January 14th, the winner of that match will receive an AEW World Title match.
-Renee Paquette is backstage with The Don Callis Family and said she guesses this means The Young Bucks aren’t joining The Family? Callis was annoyed by her stupid questions, as Okada said this is all Konosuke Takeshita’s fault, which Callis said in his defense, Takeshita is gone training. Takeshita walked in and said he’s right here and had to be held back by Fletcher. Callis said to uneducated people, Okada went into All In the Continental Champion, defeating Kenny Omega to become the International Champion resulting in the Unified Title. Paquette asked why both titles aren’t defended in the Continental Classic? Callis said because he’s not an idiot or degenerate gambler. Fletcher said they’re guaranteed bringing home the Continental Title in the C2 and the International Title is staying on Okada’s shoulder. Everyone but Takeshita is in agreement.
**********
-Hangman Adam Page is pacing backstage screaming that for three years he fought to get back to the AEW World Championship, fighting everyone to get it, but the person who costs him the title, of all people, is HOOK? Full Gear to Samoa Joe was The Opps’ finest moment, but know whether it’s him or Eddie Kingston, Page is taking that title back. If Hobbs & Shibata want a fight next week, Winter is Coming, he’s not coming alone, you know who’s coming for you, get your affairs in order.
Jon Moxley (w/Marina Shafir) (3) vs. Claudio Castagnoli (3) in a Continental Classic Blue League Match
(Hard hitting would be an understatement on how to describe this main event. The first meeting between these two in AEW and neither held back. This win should certainly be held over Moxley’s head by Castagnoli in the future once the tournament wraps, as he can always say he’s got that win. Having Bryan Danielson on commentary is always great, but especially for this one, as he added so much with the history he’s had with each man in AEW.)
Marina Shafir is with Moxley for his entrance, as Renee Paquette was in the crowd and put over the great start to the C2 the Death Riders have had and said she talked to Moxley earlier who said if Claudio wants this, he’s going to have to take this. The visual of Moxley just storming by his wife in the crowd and to the ring was pretty funny. Castagnoli was announced as the new CMLL World Champion and had Wheeler Yuta, Daniel Garcia & PAC by his side during his entrance, but didn’t come to the ring. Footage of Castagnoli winning the CMLL World Title from Gran Guerrero was shown. Bryan Danielson wisely pointed out how no one is supposed to be ringside, everyone is banned, so questions why Shafir is out there. Right on cue, referee Bryce ejects Shafir from ringside. Test of Strength early on, which Danielson said is ill advised on Moxley’s part, as Castagnoli won that battle, brought Moxley down and hit a huge double stomp. Moxley starts battling back with chops and punches in the corner before gouging the eye. Moxley snapped at the fingers, but Castagnoli hit a backbreaker into commercial break right around the top of the hour.
We return to both men slugging it out, Moxley is bleeding, as he tried a dropkick, but leapt right into a Giant Swing. After 8 revolutions, Castagnoli sank in a Sharpshooter, as Moxley crawled to the ropes, so Castagnoli switched to a Crossface. Excalibur pointed out Moxley was only bleeding a trickle, but after the Giant Swing, he really started pouring blood. Moxley escaped the Crossface into a Rear Naked Choke, but Castagnoli powered up, swung Moxley around and started trading forearms and punches. Castagnoli was sent to the floor, where Moxley hit a Tope, quickly back in the ring with a backslide, but Castagnoli kicked out. Moxley threw a wild Cutter, but Castagnoli popped up into a desperation clothesline for the double down at the 10-minute call.
Moxley tried another sleeper, Castagnoli spun out into a Gotch Style Piledriver attempt, but Moxley got a Jackknife pin, which Castagnoli rolled out of. Both stumbled to their feet where Moxley swung for the fences with a lariat into another double down. Moxley was up first and hit a Curb Stomp for a near fall, as the Rear Naked Choke was sunk in, but Castagnoli again powered up, so Moxley went to the Guillotine. Castagnoli hoisted Moxley up and chucked him outside to the floor. Castagnoli hit a charging uppercut and leaping double stomp against the barricade, as he placed Moxley against the steps and threw another uppercut and lariat back inside for a close two. Ricola Bomb followed, but again, Moxley kicked out. An intense stare down, as Moxley slowly rose to his feet and they traded uppercuts and forearms until Moxley hit a Paradigm Shift. 15-minute call, as Moxley pulled himself up from the corner right as Castagnoli started his charge and took Moxley’s head off with an uppercut for the pin.
Post-match, Death Riders came out and checked on both men, as we’re told Moxley vs. Konosuke Takeshita & Castagnoli vs. Mascara Dorada will be taking place on Collision this week.
