AEW Dynamite live results: Swerve vs. Andrade, Statlander vs. Thekla
AEW Dynamite is just outside of Austin, Texas this week for a show with three title matches scheduled.
AEW Women’s World Champion Kris Statlander will defend her title against Thekla of the Triangle of Madness.
FTR’s Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler, with Stokely Hathaway in their corner, will put the AEW World Tag Team titles on the line against Mark Davis and Jake Doyle of the Don Callis Family.
TNT Champion Mark Briscoe is also scheduled to defend his title against El Clon, who is aligned with the Don Callis Family.
Three singles matches featuring former AEW World Champions are also set for Wednesday’s show. Kenny Omega will face Rocky Romero, Swerve Strickland is set to meet Andrade El Idolo, and Jon Moxley will go one-on-one with Ace Austin in a Continental Championship eliminator match.
In addition, AEW World Champion MJF has been announced for the show.
The event takes place at the HEB Center in Cedar Park, Texas, just outside of Austin.
AEW Dynamite comes on the air with Kenny Omega’s music hitting for the opening contest, as Excalibur welcomes us alongside Tony Schiavone & Taz. Rocky Romero was already in the ring and attacked during Omega’s entrance.
Kenny Omega vs. Rocky Romero
(Romero got in a little offense, but this was a statement win for Omega, as he’s firmly planted in the World Title mix. Post-match, we finally got some light shined on how we’ll determine the next challenger for MJF and it looks like we know at least a couple of match-ups that will get us there. I’m very happy it won’t lead to another multi-man match, instead, we will see things play out until there is one challenger standing for the World Title.)
Omega quickly gained control with a slingshot dive to the outside. Excalibur goes over how Samoa Joe suffered an injury during training and isn’t cleared for action this week, as Taz wishes him well. Back inside, Kotaro Krusher and running face palm slam from Omega, leading to Romero briefly taking a powder and gaining a cheap shot. Running Sliced Bread kept Romero in control, as the locomotion corner charges connected a few times before Omega derailed it with a big boot. Romero escaped a Snap Dragon into a Rewind Kick, but opted to do a Goal celebration in the corner, opening him right up to eat a V-Trigger to the noggin. Snap Dragon and V-Trigger connected flush, leading to the One-Winged Angel for the win.
Tony Schiavone (rocking matching bright yellow tie and Nikes) comes into the ring post-match and talks about all the possible challengers for the AEW World Title. Schiavone said that the two top contenders will face at Grand Slam Australia, with the winner of that match receiving an AEW World Title shot against MJF at Revolution. The winner of Andrade vs. Swerve Strickland tonight will face Omega next week in Las Vegas to determine one of those spots in Australia.
Omega said he hates to repeat himself, but AEW is supposed to be where the best wrestle. Omega said whether it’s someone that he hates like Don Callis and his Family, or someone that he loves, he’ll become World Champion once again. Hangman Adam Page’s music hit and he power walked to the ring. Page said Omega looks good, but truth be told, after all these years, he’d rather be fighting beside him than against him, but with the World Title at stake, so be it. Page made the mistake of looking past Samoa Joe & The Opps and hoping he’d get to defend the title against Omega again one day, but due to a kick to the balls by HOOK, things are different. As much fire and passion as Omega has, he will not be the next World Champion, nor will it be Andrade or Swerve, the next champion will be Hangman Adam Page.
Swerve Strickland’s music hits and excused himself for sounding like a broken record, but he came back to AEW for a World Championship and he hasn’t been pinned since returning. Strickland’s mission remains the same, he’s getting back his World Championship and doesn’t care who he has to stomp out and ravage to get what he wants. It can be anybody (looking right at Omega) and he does mean, anybody. Omega said he fancies himself at being pretty astute at reading the room and feels the animosity between them and he’s looking for a fight. Strickland laughs and says more than Omega will ever know.
Don Callis’ voice is heard, as he walks to the stage and is booed out of the building, telling Strickland to enjoy being undefeated, as it ends tonight when Andrade pins him. Little Kenny, daddy is here to tell him that when Andrade beats Strickland, he’s coming for Omega. Callis hasn’t forgotten about Page and has something special in mind for him. All three of them are going to understand that The Don Callis Family runs this show. Omega’s music hit, but he told them to cut it, telling Callis he should’ve been worrying about himself instead of his Family. Omega sprinted up the ramp at Callis, who ran for his life.
Match Result: Kenny Omega defeated Rocky Romero
-Video package for Kris Statlander vs. Thekla for the AEW Women’s Title tonight. Babes of Wrath said they know the Sisters of Sin will come out and interfere, but make them a deal, they’ll give them a Tag Title shot if they leave the match tonight one on one.
Jon Moxley vs. Ace Austin in a Continental Title Eliminator Match
(While this didn’t go as long as Moxley’s previous Eliminator matches, I thought Austin put up one hell of a fight and more than held his own, with the crowd popping at his offense. We know who Moxley’s big challenger will come from next, as Takeshita seemingly called his shot and I wouldn’t be shocked if that happens at Grand Slam.)
Renee Paquette was ringside pre-match and put over Austin’s run on Collision (this is his Dynamite singles debut) and also said he was going to be in the match with Austin Gunn against Protoshita last week, but due to travel issues, that had to be switched (which explains the Billy Gunn addition). Bell sounded and Moxley floored Austin with a big boot and corner chops. Austin was able to use his speed to back to his feet, ramped up a strike exchange, but was sent to the apron, but slid back inside for a cazadora arm-drag and hand stand into a PK on the apron. Moxley tried to create some distance, as Austin was in hot pursuit heading into commercial.
Austin controlled most of the break, but Moxley quickly turned the tables when things returned, taking Austin up in the corner with a signature back rake and superplex. Kitchen sink/pump knee/reverse DDT/legdrop combo rattled off by Austin in response, as repeated corner clotheslines led to a springboard attempt at one, only Moxley took his head off with a lariat of his own. Both trade a series of pin attempts until Moxley just gets up and staggered Austin with hard forearms. Austin swung for the fences with a roundhouse kick and got a close near fall. Both trade strikes, until Austin avoided a corner charge and hit his springboard kick for another two-count. Austin took too long to capitalize, allowing Moxley to fire off a Cutter out of nowhere followed by a Death Rider for the win.
Post-match, Konosuke Takeshita’s music hit and he came to the ring and got right into Moxley’s face, pointing at the Continental Title. Moxley said he remembered how Takeshita beat him in the Continental Classic, as Takeshita again pointed at the title before leaving. Jake Doyle & Mark Davis blindsided Moxley from behind and stood tall as we’re told their Tag Title match isn’t next, instead, it’ll be the TNT Title, making this attack kind of odd, but I assume it comes into play later possibly.
Match Result: Jon Moxley defeated Ace Austin

Mark Briscoe vs. El Clon (w/Don Callis) for the TNT Title
(Very entertaining title defense for Briscoe, who continues to be one of the most beloved babyfaces in all of wrestling. Despite this being Clon’s third singles match in AEW, he more than delivered I thought, wowing the crowd with offense we’ve only seen up to this point on Collision. The post-match was a huge reaction for the surprise debut of one Tommaso Ciampa and it will lead to one hell of a showdown on Saturday.)
This is Clon’s Dynamite Debut, as Callis joins commentary and said after his men win their title matches tonight, he’ll rename this Don Callis Championship Wrestling with Taz at a one-man booth. Big time back elbow by Clon, staggering Briscoe in the early going, as a chop could be heard over the entire arena. Briscoe floated over in the corner and took the brawl to the outside, getting a receipt with a loud chop of his own. Briscoe chucked a chair into the ring, tried to leap off it, but Clon returned, flipped over it, missing Briscoe while he tried to launch it at him. Briscoe fired back with a huge lariat, clobbering Clon with a baseball slide and Blockbuster from the apron. Taking too long and playing to the fans, Clon was able to trap Briscoe under the ring skirt and deliver a big boot heading to commercial.
It was all Clon during break, as he connected with a one-legged springboard moonsault for a near fall. Callis put over how he has the best wrestlers from Mexico, Japan & Australia in his Family. Briscoe was able to turn the tables and hit his somersault suicida, as back inside, Clon fired off a thrust kick, only to run into a series of jabs. Both had the same idea and collided with a double clothesline for the reset. Slugfest ensues, until Briscoe fired off an Exploder, corner charge and Fisherman’s Bomb. Briscoe went up top and hit the Froggy Bow, but Clon kicked out. Briscoe signaled for the Jay Driller, but Clon somehow kipped up on impact and hit a Pele Kick. One-legged Asai Moonsault ouside, as Clon quickly took Briscoe back inside for a Double Stomp off the top. Wrist/Ankle clutch driver attempt blocked, as Briscoe fought off a Portal Bomb and got a high stack for the flash pin.
Post-match, Briscoe took the mic and said he’s not doing any ducking or dodging and we’ll be right back in action on Saturday Night and loves the concept of the TNT Open Challenge, but one asterisk, no one from the Don Callis Family, as he’s sick of them. Anyone else, step up, as the lights went out and a heartbeat was shown with the words Psycho Killer reading on the Tron. Tommaso Ciampa has arrived to a massive ovation, as pyro goes off with Ciampa walking to the ring and circling Briscoe, looking at the TNT Title, saying he’s coming for it. Ciampa kissed Briscoe on the cheek and hyped the crowd up ringside, the match is official for Collision.
Match Result: Mark Briscoe defeated El Clon to retain the TNT Title

-Renee Paquette welcomes Kyle Fletcher backstage and at his request, Kazuchika Okada talks about using the screwdriver at Worlds End in his match and took it before Fletcher could use it in his, as he wanted to face Fletcher in the Finals of the Continental Classic and he’s sorry. Fletcher said it takes a big man to admit his faults and accepts his apology. They both shake hands, as Fletcher walks off with Okada staring him down.
MJF Still Can’t Shake Brody King
MJF walks to the ring, as Tony Schiavone compares him to when a dog pees on you, MJF is the pee. MJF asks Taz why they’re having them work in a dump like this and Taz has no answers for the champ. Before MJF could get another word out, Brody King’s music hits and he slowly walks to the ring, as MJF demands the music be cut and fans stop barking. Apparently, King is as deaf as he is stupid (King power walked to the ring and MJF quickly retreated) and MJF asked if they can speak like men? Crowd loudly chanted for Brody, as MJF told “bark boy” last week that he needs to beat someone that matters, but he’s still following him around like a lost puppy. It’s the same thing King did with Malakai Black and it terrified MJF how they’d turn the lights on and off. King also followed Buddy Matthews, a name that strikes fear into everyone and questions how his ankle is, but actually doesn’t give a sh*t.
Now, King follows a loser like Bandido, so maybe he should follow MJF, he’ll pay him to follow him around. They’ll have to fix his asthetic and never in his life has he met a liberal man that looks more like a Nazi. It’s ok, MJF will get him in a nice suit and scarf, as the pipe dream of King beating MJF is just that, a dream. The reality is; in order to be Champion of the World, you need to be a leader and just like the schmuck fans, King is nothing more than a follower.
King said he doesn’t need to follow anybody and what MJF described is called friends, something MJF has never had. King said MJF is right, he sat down with Tony Khan and they thought about who King should face to potentially earn a title shot and they figured it out, MJF. Next week, they’ll have an Eliminator Match and if King wins, they’ll have a World Title match at Grand Slam Australia and King will become the leader that AEW needs. King left with a smile on his face, as MJF could not be more upset with that blowing up in his face.
-Video package on The Young Bucks is shown, as they said a little bit of humility is what helped them. Going back to their roots of tassels and superkicks and challenge any team to face them next week in Las Vegas for a Superkick Party.
Kris Statlander vs. Thekla for the AEW Women’s Title
(I understand we have a lot more left on the show and only a limited time to get to it, but it felt like this was just getting going and reaching another level. I was almost hoping they were going to do a title change here, as it would’ve been a nice surprise, but maybe down the line Thekla can get a rematch. With this loss, I truly hope Thekla somehow remains in the title picture, as she’s been a highlight in the division as one of the more entertaining heels.)
Sisters of Sin were out with Thekla for her entrance, but left soon after, as we’re reminded of the title match offered by Babes of Wrath if they keep their distance from this match. Thekla offered a handshake to start, but slapped Statlander before taking a powder. Statlander had Thekla come to her and delivered a leg drop between the ropes as a result. To the outside, Statlander planted Thekla with a delayed vertical suplex and followed it up with a slingshot into the steps, sternum first. Statlander posed for the crowd way too long, allowing Thekla to charge in with a boot, launching Statlander to the floor. Double stomp to the back off the apron, as we get dueling chants from the crowd heading to break.
Thekla worked over Statlander during commercial and we returned with a tarantula head scissors in the corner, but Statlander powered out, smashing Thekla face first into the top buckle. Building momentum, corner charges and spinning fisherman’s bomb for a near fall, as Statlander tried a DVD, but Thekla escaped to the apron and guillotined Statlander. Thekla rolled through a top rope dive, but Statlander charged and mowed her down with a lariat. Statlander took too long going up top, allowing Thekla to slap her and join in the ropes, delivering a Spider Suplex (Black Widow Jones as Taz called her). Statlander rolled outside to create distance, but Thekla met her with a big time cross-body. Crowd is loudly behind Thekla now, as Statlander kicked out at two back inside. Statlander fired off an uppercut, but turned her back to charge, giving Thekla enough time to hit her Spear for the reset.
Both started swinging on their knees and rose to their feet, with Statlander screaming at Thekla to beat her, but instead, Thekla spat in her face. Black Widow briefly applied, but Thekla wrenched at the arm and followed with a Curb Stomp for a close two. Spider pose from Thekla, as she charged, running into a Statlander thrust kick. Thekla rolled out of Night Fever into a roll-up, Matrixed out of a charge, tried another Spear, but Statlander caught her with a Doctor Bomb and Staturday Night Fever to retain the title.
Post-match, Babes of Wrath came to the ring to celebrate with Statlander until Megan Bayne & Penelope Ford walk to the stage and stare the champions down.
Match Result: Kris Statlander defeated Thekla to retain the AEW Women’s Title
-Don Callis is backstage with Protoshita and talks about bringing the gold home to daddy. Andrade has already made his intentions known and going for the AEW World Title. Callis told Takeshita to take Fletcher’s lead and forgive Okada. If you look up Fletcher’s name in the dictionary, you’ll find TNT and he’ll bring home the title to the Family, whether it’s from Briscoe or Ciampa. Callis said he’s going to go enjoy a martini while Davis & Doyle bring home the Tag Titles and walks off. Takeshita turns to Fletcher and asks if he forgave Okada? Fletcher tried to explain, but Takeshita walked off dejected.

-Video package for Ricochet vs. Jungle Jack Perry is shown ahead of their match next week. We then go to Ricochet earlier today saying we were supposed to hear from Perry, but there’s been a change of plans. Perry was shown trying to fight off G.O.A. but got beat up severely as a result and put through a table with their finisher.
FTR (Cash Wheeler & Dax Harwood w/Stokely) vs. Mark Davis & Jake Doyle for the AEW Tag Team Titles
(After Davis & Doyle controlled the first portion of the match, it felt like a sprint when things returned from commercial. Now, there’s a lot of speculation that Doyle tore his bicep from taking a DDT on the apron, as it was on his arm that was holding onto the top rope while taking the bump. He & Davis were just getting going as a hoss tag team, so I can only hope for a speedy recovery whatever the diagnosis ends up being. The post-match attack on Moxley earlier in the night made sense for the finish of this match and I’m curious to see if they have to pivot now with the potential injury, which, again, as of right now, hasn’t been confirmed.)
Series of shoulder tackles from Doyle to Wheeler, who tried a leap frog, but Doyle hit a chest bump in mid-air. Davis tagged in and Harwood suffered the same fate as his partner, as Davis started a chop exchange, which he won, hit a standing senton, but as he hit the ropes, Wheeler low bridged him. Doyle was sent outside as well, as Wheeler attempted a dive, but was caught and darted into his tag partner, with the fans cheering for Davis & Doyle into commercial.
During the break, Harwood’s chest has been bloodied from the chops from Davis, who fired off an enzugiri and momentum lariat. Wheeler made the save and planted Doyle with a powerslam, but it was no sold and Doyle mowed him down with another body block. Stokely called Doyle a neanderthal, as Harwood was placed in the corner, wanted a superplex, but Wheeler made the save again and spiked Doyle with a DDT on the apron. This took out Doyle from the rest of the match and despite being not confirmed officially as of press time, you could hear him tell Wheeler he tore his bicep. Davis took out Wheeler, went up with Harwood, who slid out, crotched Davis and hit an avalanche back suplex and Wheeler flew in with a top rope splash for two. We see that the chest of Harwood isn’t bleeding, but there’s a cut above his eyebrow it looks like. Davis sent Wheeler outside before they could try Shatter Machine and he sank in a Sleeper on Harwood, who flailed around before fading.
Death Riders then appear ringside, as Daniel Garcia took referee Paul Turner, as Jon Moxley clocked Davis with the Continental Title. Davis ate a Shatter Machine and FTR retained the titles. Post-match, Stokely said he’s said it many times, he loves the Death Riders before scurrying away on his wheelchair, celebrating up the ramp with Harwood & Wheeler. Moxley acted like he had no idea what happened.
Match Result: FTR defeated Mark Davis & Jake Doyle to retain the AEW Tag Team Titles when Harwood pinned Davis
-Renee Paquette is backstage with Orange Cassidy, who talks about his feud with Wheeler Yuta and said he’s unrecognizable than he was 5 years ago with his dumb bushy beard, when Yuta walks in. Marina Shafir walks in and grabs Cassidy by the hair, as Timeless Toni Storm told her to unhand him, as Shafir is like a bad dose of the clap, you don’t know how you got there, but she’s going to need her to get out of here!
Shafir asks if Storm wants more milk or does her girlfriend want more flowers? Storm told her to piss off, as when her & citrus boy meet them, they’ll be in some deep sh*t. Security separated them all, with Paquette left baffled. I think it’s fair to assume a mixed tag is on tap.

Swerve Strickland (w/Prince Nana) vs. Andrade El Idolo (w/Don Callis)
(Excellent main event and a finish I didn’t really see coming, with this obviously being Andrade’s biggest W to date in his entire time in AEW. I like how they’ve included him in the list of guys vying for the next title shot with MJF and he’s more than held his own so far and have no reason to believe any different next week against Kenny Omega. It’ll be interesting to see how Strickland bounces back from this and which direction he’ll go, as he’ll undoubtedly want revenge considering how this match ended.)
Don Callis joined commentary, as we got a slugfest out the gate, as both men showed off their athleticism with counters aplenty, both missing home run shots, leading to a stalemate. Both found themselves up in the corner, where Strickland managed a snap hurricarnana, that sent Andrade outside. Strickland tried to clear the top rope, but Andrade moved and smashed Strickland into the steps before taking a selfie with a “fan” ringside. She kissed a piece of paper with her number on it and he put it in his pocket for later and then went back to work over Strickland during commercial.
Back from break, where Andrade hits a picture-perfect springboard Tornillo to the outside. Back inside, Andrade tried his moonsault off the top, Strickland moved, but Andrade kept up the momentum and hit a standing moonsault. Andrade tried a charge at Strickland in the corner, but Strickland caught and delivered a hard Death Valley Driver on the apron to take control. Strickland brought Andrade up on the barricade, but unlike last week with Kevin Knight, Andrade avoided a piledriver and backdropped Strickland, who clipped the barricade. We saw in doing so, Andrade crotched himself at the same time, which Don Callis pointed out. Both men struggled mightily to break the count at 9, diving in simultaneously.
Forearms exchanged, with Andrade firing off nine of them, tried the DM (the spinning butterfly DDT), but Strickland spun out. Andrade charged and clobbered Strickland with his spinning back elbow for a close near fall. Andrade signaled for the running double knees, but Strickland exploded up into a House Call for two of his own. Andrade cut Strickland off in the corner, joined him, as Andrade managed an Avalanche Poison Rana. This put Strickland in position for Andrade to hit the double knees in the corner and wrist-clutch DDT that spiked Strickland, who got his shoulder up. Andrade went for another spinning back elbow, Strickland blocked, tried Big Pressure, Andrade rolled out, but Strickland hit the House Call. Andrade grabbed referee Aubrey as Strickland went for Big Pressure, allowing him to hit a low blow kick and the DM to steal the win. Excalibur said that Andrade is within striking distance of the AEW World Title, as he now faces Kenny Omega next week with the winner advancing to Grand Slam Australia for a #1 Contenders Match.
Match Result: Andrade El Idolo defeated Swerve Strickland
Post-match, Renee Paquette is backstage with MJF asking his thoughts on his match next week with Brody King. If that oversized bag of milk with sharpie written all over him thinks he has a shot, he’s got another thing coming. Kenny Omega walks in and says one more week, one more win and he’ll see MJF for a title match at Revolution. Omega offers a handshake, but MJF walks away and bumps into Andrade, who says he wants the World Title. MJF keeps walks away, out of the arena to an awaiting car, but the door is slammed shut by Hangman Adam Page, who stares MJF down. MJF quickly gets into the car and yells at the driver to drive, leaving Page alone to end the show.
