AEW Dynamite live results: Kazuchika Okada vs. Bandido Unified title match

Two title matches headline tonight’s post-WrestleDream edition of AEW Dynamite.

AEW Unified Champion Kazuchika Okada will put his title on the line against Bandido. The ROH World Champion pinned Okada at WrestleDream in Okada & Konosuke Takeshita’s challenge of AEW Tag Team Champions Brodido.

The AEW Trios Championship will also be up for grabs as The Opps (Samoa Joe, Powerhouse Hobbs & Katsuyori Shibata) defend against The Hurt Syndicate (Bobby Lashley, Shelton Benjamin & MVP). The Hurt Syndicate earned the title shot with a win over The Demand at WrestleDream. The Opps turned heel at the pay-per-view by attacking AEW World Champion Hangman Page after Joe failed to defeat him.

The bracket for the tournament to crown the inaugural AEW Women’s Tag Team Champions will also be revealed on tonight’s episode.

After winning her eleventh and twelfth championships over the weekend, 12 Belts Mercedes “Ultimo” Mone will hold a celebration on tonight’s show.

AEW Dynamite comes on the air with Excalibur welcoming us along with Bryan Danielson, as they run down tonight’s card. We’re told the AEW Unified Title match between Kazuchika Okada & Bandido will main event the show. They then go to a great video package highlighting everything that went down at WrestleDream. After the PPV, cameras caught up with Hangman Adam Page being checked on by doctors. Page screamed, asking Joe if he’s lost his damn mind after Page gave him a title shot. When he finds Joe, he is going to ruin his damn life.

The Opps (Samoa Joe, Powerhouse Hobbs & Katsuyori Shibata) vs. The Hurt Syndicate (Bobby Lashley, Shelton Benjamin & MVP) for the AEW Trios Titles

(Good opening contest, as this felt like a preview of a rematch we could get down the line, as they held back on a lot of the interactions with guys like Hobbs & Lashley, so hopefully that’s a singles eventually. The result, though, makes me think the never-ending Syndicate vs. Demand feud is going to continue. With The Opps freshly heels, it certainly makes sense for them to retain, as Joe laying into the San Antonio fans in the post-match was great. Welcome back, killer heel Samoa Joe.)

Danielson said he wasn’t surprised Hobbs & Shibata joined Joe in the beatdown of Page at WrestleDream, but was when Joe opted to take that route to begin with. Shibata & Benjamin kick things off, trading headlocks and submission attempts until Benjamin popped up and ran through Shibata with a clothesline. Lashley & Hobbs tag in and the crowd starts immediately chanting Meat, but Joe tagged himself in and covered Hobbs up with a towel to cut the chants off. Lashley fired off strikes on Joe, planting him with a Flatliner before going back to Benjamin. Joe tried his walk off when Benjamin dove off the top, but Benjamin landed on his feet, so Joe just tagged out to Hobbs. Everyone took turns sending each other to the outside, leaving Joe standing tall, until Benjamin met him with a corner pump knee. Hobbs was in with a running powerslam, as Joe followed up with a charging senton to stay in control during break.

Things return with Benjamin still isolated, until he managed a leaping desperation DDT on Joe for the double down. Lashley makes the tag and rag dolls Shibata all over the ring, clearing Hobbs from the apron before driving Shibata down with a Dominator for two. Hobbs made the save and we finally get the Meat slugfest until Hobbs went to the windpipe, but Lashley floated over a powerslam, tried The Hurt Lock, but Hobbs broke free. Both men got a head of steam and collided like two trains, allowing Shibata to fly in with a PK on Lashley for two. MVP makes his first tag into the match, as Joe goes right for the eyes, but MVP responded with a jawbreaker and Ballin’ elbow.

Hobbs made the save, planted Benjamin with a spinebuster, as Lashley dished one out to Hobbs as well. Joe sank in a Coquina Clutch briefly on MVP, who hit a jawbreaker to escape. Looking for the Play of the Day, MVP was distracted by Ricochet, who ran distraction on the apron. That hesistation allowed Joe to sink back in the Coquina Clutch for the submission win. Ricochet joined G.O.A. on the aisle and went to the back, as The Hurt Syndicate recovered and went after them to the back.

Post-match, Tony Schiavone came to the ring and asked Joe to explain his actions at WrestleDream. Joe said it’s good to be in San Antonio, a place where Powerhouse Hobbs can keep all the big old women there occupied. As long as Joe is on planet earth and you call yourself a champion, Joe comes hunting for you. As long as you think you’re the best that can be, just know, Joe is waiting to show you that you’re not that man. Much like the fans say, Hangman Adam Page, you might think this is Cowboy Sh*t, but everyone of the slap jawed Texans who chant that, Joe will make you his b*tch like everyone sports team has made Texas teams theirs. The Opps are never lacking.

Match Result: The Opps defeated The Hurt Syndicate to retain the AEW Trios Titles when Joe submitted MVP

-Earlier today, Mercedes Mone was shown arriving slowly in a luxury ride, that was being walked backstage with fellas holding all her gold. We then go backstage to Renee Paquette with Kris Statlander, who said if there were anyone she’d want to strip with, beat the hell out of and defend her title against, she’s glad it was with Toni Storm. Statlander said she’s beaten Storm twice, has Mone? Statlander is taking the title to heights it’s never been seen before and officially accepts Mone’s challenge for an AEW Women’s Title match at Full Gear and wishes Mone a good celebration tonight.

Darby Allin’s Comments on WrestleDream Main Event

Darby Allin made his entrance carrying the AEW flag he brought to Mount Everest and also used to choke Jon Moxley last weekend, as he placed it in the center of the ring. Bryan Danielson on commentary said the I Quit match was all about who blinked first and it was Moxley. Allin said before he climbed Everest, many said he was irresponsible and could never be the face of this company, if he’d get killed, it’d be bad PR, but he’s willing to die for this place. The marks on his body from Saturday tells a story, he was never going to say I Quit, but he wears the scars from that match. Knowing the Death Riders won’t go away, as long as they are breathing, Allin isn’t far behind. Allin’s music hit and that was it. Short and sweet promo.

-Highlights from Jurassic Express vs. The Young Bucks from Saturday was shown, as Jack Perry said they beat the greatest tag team of their generation and what’s next is reclamation, they’re coming for their World Tag Team Titles.

Megan Bayne & Penelope Ford vs. Queen Aminata & Jamie Hayter vs. Willow Nightingale & Harley Cameron vs. Julia Hart & Skye Blue

(Action packed chaos tag that had everyone get in at least a little bit of offense, but the ones who ultimately stood tall with a great looking finisher, was Hayter & Aminata. I should give credit to Ford & Bayne, who, despite the loss, looked really good in this. The pick from Hayter & Aminata should surprise no one, since it continues to build the bad blood leading to Blood & Guts.)

The winner of this match will pick their opponents in the upcoming Women’s Tag Team Title Tournament.

Nightingale & Cameron double teamed Blue to start with an assisted cazadora splash for a one count. Blue avoided a Cameron enzugiri and threw a thrust kick, as Ford made a blind tag and fired off a chop to the throat. Nightingale saved her partner from taking a double suplex from Bayne & Ford, as it was Hayter & Bayne who wound up in the ring throwing bombs at one another before trading suplex attempts. Bayne found herself in the wrong corner, as Aminata made the tag, they tried a suplex, but it was Bayne who suplexed Hayter & Aminata at the same time. With a pile of women on the floor, Bayne hit a dive, while Ford landed a moonsault from the top rope, as the Top Gods were in control heading to commercial.

Back from break, Hart did her rope walk clubbing blow, as Blue joined, but Aminata fought both off. Desperate for a tag, Aminata made a hot tag to Nightingale, who ran wild, squashing Hart & Blue in the corner before giving both spinebusters. Calling for Cameron, Blue was ping ponged with strikes before Nightingale went for the Doctor Bomb, but Bayne broke things up, dragging Blue to her corner so Ford could tag in. Bayne launched Ford at Nightingale with a Cutter, but Hart broke the pin. Double Stunner by Ford, as Bayne followed by giving Hart & Blue a double German Suplex. Nightingale avoided a Doomsday Device and Pounced Bayne from the ring. Hayter blind tagged herself in, as Nightingale was sent outside, leaving Hayter & Aminata hitting a double big boot into a wild headbutt and Hayter-ade combo for the win. That was a great looking finish.

Post-match, Hayter took the mic and said they’re not waiting to pick who they want in the first round of the tag tournament and call out Blue & Hart for the first round.

Match Result: Jamie Hayter & Queen Aminata defeated Megan Bayne & Penelope Ford, Willow Nightingale & Harley Cameron and Julia Hart & Skye Blue when Hayter pinned Ford

-The Young Bucks are outside Tony Khan’s office when Renee Paquette approaches. Matt asked if Paquette is loving this, as Nick said they’re broke, they don’t know what’s next. They’ll wrestle anyone in a money match. Khan finally opens his door and said how about this weeked on Collision for $400,000 JetSpeed & Jurassic Express vs. The Young Bucks & these guys…FTR walk out of Khan’s locker room. Nick said their past is water under the bridge, they need the money. Stokley said the holidays are coming up and gave Nick a dollar, which he pocketed.

12-Belt’s Mercedes Mone Celebration

Renee Paquette is in the ring with balloons, cake and drinks to run down all of Mone’s latest accomplishments this past weekend. Mone’s music hits, but Mini-Mone makes her return, popping up from under the table and gets Paquette to do the CEO dance. Mone herself finally makes her entrance and tells her Belt Boys to go to the back, as well as Paquette. Mone asks Harley Cameron what the hell she thinks she’s doing and says the stupid dumb marks here want to mock her after everything she’s done for women’s wrestling? Mini-Mone mocks the same thing Mone just said and dances, as Mone said a few weeks ago, Cameron wanted Mone to be her partner, tonight should be about Mone’s 12-Belt celebration. Mone is tired of the disrespect and shoves Mini-Mone’s face into the cake. Mone was about to shove Cameron’s face into the cake when Kris Statlander appeared, drove Mone face first into the cake before chokeslamming Mone through the table. Statlander, Cameron & Mini-Mone stand tall and do the CEO dance.

-After the PPV last week, Jon Moxley said he did not deliver what he promised at WrestleDream. Tonight, it was Darby Allin’s strength that was the deciding factor, commitment to self-destruction, which some day, will be Allin’s downfall. Tomorrow, the sun rises again and they continue their commitment to being the best, as their only competition is themselves. No on in professional wrestling can hold a candle to the standard they set. Sometimes you make a promise and believe what would happen, but it doesn’t, so Allin made Moxley a liar. Now, Moxley knows who he is when he looks into the mirror.

The Conglomeration (& Roderick Strong) make their entrance to their amazing new Beverly Hills 90210 theme and tron video to send Kyle O’Reilly to the ring for the upcoming contest.

Jon Moxley (w/Marina Shafir) vs. Kyle O’Reilly

(I really enjoyed this match, as Moxley’s panic every time he was caught in a submission made his desperation down the stretch that much more compelling. He ultimately did what was needed to not have to tap out again, even if it did cost him the match. Danielson said, even via disqualification, this was O’Reilly’s biggest win in AEW to date.)

Danielson that Moxley just got cleared right before showtime, which is why this match was so late in being announced and said he’s even with his history with Moxley, he’s impressed that Moxley admitted and accepted defeat at WrestleDream. Both trade knee strikes off a clinch early, as O’Reilly escaped a full nelson, trying for a hammerlock, but Moxley countered into a cross arm-breaker. O’Reilly answered into a Seatbelt Pin, but Moxley escaped into the stalemate. Flying arm-bar by O’Reilly, as the fans are chanting “He’s a Quitter” to Moxley, who stomped the face of O’Reilly to get free. O’Reilly fired back with strikes, until Moxley bit at the head and pie-faced O’Reilly to the floor.

Back from break, O’Reilly hit the running knee off the apron to Moxley, who was placed on a chair ringside. Back inside, O’Reilly applied a guillotine hammerlock into a triangle choke, but Moxley was able to position O’Reilly under the bottom rope and slingshot him into it. They brawl to the apron and trade strikes, until O’Reilly wrenches the shoulder down hard on the edge of the ring. O’Reilly quickly up top for a flying knee drop on the back of Moxley’s leg, where a running knee to the head got a near fall. Danielson said Moxley is clearly shaken still from Saturday, as O’Reilly sank in an ankle lock. Moxley escaped briefly, but O’Reilly countered into a cross-arm-breaker, where Moxley teased a tap. Getting back to his feet, Moxley swung for the fences with a lariat and spiked O’Reilly with a stalling piledriver for two. Moxley quickly switched to a Bulldog Choke, but O’Reilly got a rope break.

A frustrated Moxley started pie-facing O’Reilly, who side-stepped a Curb Stomp, chop blocked the leg into a rolling elbow. Nigel lariat countered by Moxley, but O’Reilly spun out into an ankle lock again. Moxley used the ref to pull himself up and just waffled Paul Turner right in the face with an elbow, ending this match in a disqualification. Referees, The Conglomeration & Death Riders all hit the ring, as Moxley & Shafir escaped, while we’re told the 6-man tag announced earlier today is up next.

Match Result: Kyle O’Reilly defeated Jon Moxley via disqualification

Death Riders (Claudio Castagnoli, Daniel Garcia & Wheeler Yuta) vs. Roderick Strong & The Conglomeration (Mark Briscoe & Orange Cassidy)

(Your party match of the week, as this wound up being a week to forget for the Death Riders. If they’re going to do Blood & Guts with the men this year as well, I could see this being the crew to do it. Only time will tell, as that show isn’t until another couple of weeks.)

Fast start and trading of pin attempts from Yuta & Cassidy to kick things off, as Cassidy wound up for an Orange Punch, but Yuta bailed. Garcia tagged in and quickly took Cassidy down repeatedly, opting to trash talk fans, allowing Briscoe to tag in. Briscoe ramps up forearms and big boots before tagging in Strong, who delivers the chops. Garcia managed to break free and tag in Castagnoli, who picked up with Strong where they left off last week. Hard chops exchanged by both, as Castagnoli sent Strong into the Death Riders corner, where Strong sent Yuta & Garcia packing. Garcia ate a backbreaker, but that delay allowed Castagnoli to fire off an uppercut to the outside. Yuta was planted with a backbreaker on the barricade, as Castagnoli suffered the same fate. Castagnoli tripped up referee Bryce, which gave Yuta a chance to trip up Strong, with Castagnoli out and draped Strong throat first on the barricade into commercial.

Strong was isolated throughout the break, until a double down with he & Castagnoli finally led to the Cassidy lukewarm tag. Yuta & Garcia failed at a double team, where Cassidy took them both out with a double dropkick and kip up with his hands in the pockets. Castagnoli avoided a DDT, but ate a Stundog Millionaire before Cassidy took out Yuta & Garcia outside with a Tope. Briscoe fired off strikes on everyone in his path, until all of Death Riders were ringside, as Briscoe hit a corkscrew senton off the top. Back inside, Fisherman Buster on Yuta for two, as a Jay Driller was cut-off by Garcia, who hooked in a guillotine, but Strong flew in with a Sick Kick. Castagnoli slammed Strong, as Cassidy flew off the top for a DDT, but was caught with a Castagnoli uppercut. Comeback German from Yuta, who followed with a Busiaku Knee on Briscoe, but Strong broke the count narrowly. Yuta starts delivering Anvil elbows to Briscoe, looking over at Danielson, wanting Cattle Mutilation, but Briscoe spun out into a huge lariat and Jay Driller for the pin.

Post-match, PAC attacked Briscoe, but Tomohiro Ishii made the save as both of them slugged it out in the ring. Jon Moxley is back ringside for distraction, as Marina Shafir low blowed Ishii. Kyle O’Reilly tried to make the save, but was attacked as well. Cassidy wanted an Orange Punch on Castagnoli, but was blocked and Death Riders cleaned off the announce table. Castagnoli tried to gorilla press Cassidy like he did to Darby Allin at WrestleDream, but right on cue, Allin himself ran out and put a stop to it. The Conglomeration were able to stand tall with Allin, staring down Death Riders ringside to end the chaos.

Match Result: Roderick Strong & The Conglomeration defeated Death Riders when Briscoe pinned Yuta

-Alicia Atout is backstage with Mercedes Mone, still covered in cake (no one has given her a towel in the past hour?), furious at what happened during her celebration. ROH Women’s (Forever) Champion Athena walked in and said she’s never looked better. Whatever Ultimo Mone is, it’s time for them to put differences aside and they can do this again, as Tag Team Champions. Mone realizes title 13 is on the table and agrees, as Athena drags her off screen for some Minion Training, which Mone said “oh, hell no.”

Kyle Fletcher came to the ring with Don Callis by his side. Fletcher told the San Antonio crowd to say his full name. At WrestleDream, he defended the TNT Title for the 6th time in just a few months and put down one of his greatest rivals Mark Briscoe, proving definitively that he’s better, so there will be no rematch, he could beat Briscoe 100 more times.

Briscoe walked out and said as Fletcher grows up, he’ll learn that he doesn’t have to talk so damn much. Briscoe was about to get out of here, but he’ll be damned if he’ll let Fletcher talk that bullsh*t and not retort. Short and sweet, it doesn’t need to be 100 more times, give him one more shot. Briscoe isn’t making excuses; he’s been icing his balls all weekend long and asks for another shot. Fletcher seemingly was going to agree, but Callis whispered something in his ear. Callis told Briscoe he’s a great wrestler and athlete, but he sounds desperate, which is off putting. With all those kids at home, it’s not a family, it’s a financial burden. Briscoe needs a family like the Don Callis Family, not a group of blood sucking leaches. Callis will tell Briscoe not what he wants to hear, but needs to hear, no.

Thekla walks in and said Shirakawa hasn’t lost everything yet, she still has her mind, her dignity and her life. Shirakawa said they’ve fought in Japan and she’ll fight her here and challenges her for Collision. Thekla accepts and said if you think Storm is sad now, she’ll cry after what she does to Shirakawa. Thekla walks off and Shirakawa blows some kisses before flipping Thekla off.
