AEW star says he’ll be back in action ‘definitely sooner than later’

Samoa Joe has been away from AEW since an injury angle that took place last month at All In, but it looks like he’ll be back in action soon.

The All In pay-per-view included an angle where Joe was stretchered out following a steel chair attack by the Death Riders. It was done to temporarily write Joe off as he would be doing promotional work for season two of Peacock’s “Twisted Metal” series — where Joe plays the character Sweet Tooth.

Joe has claimed to be going through concussion protocols following the attack by the Death Riders, but he told PWInsider in a new interview published today that his return should be coming sooner rather than later.

“Definitely sooner than later,” Joe said in response to a question about when we’ll see him in AEW again. “We’re clearing our various medical protocols, and as soon as we’re done with that, we’ll be back to business.”

The Opps (Joe, Katsuyori Shibata & Powerhouse Hobbs) are the current AEW Trios Champions and retained their belts against Claudio Castagnoli, Wheeler Yuta & Gabe Kidd at All In prior to the attack.

Season two of “Twisted Metal” premiered on July 31 with new episodes set to be released through August 28. It’s based on the classic video game series of the same name. Joe physically plays Sweet Tooth on the show while Will Arnett provides the voice for the character.
