AEW wrestler to challenge for CMLL title later this month
An AEW star is challenging for one of CMLL’s titles.
Thunder Rosa won a number one contender’s match Sunday night in Arena Mexico, defeating Reyna Isis, Keyra, Garra Negra, Sanely, Skadi, Hera, and Olympia to become the new number one contender for the Mexican National Women’s Championship which is currently held by India Sioux. That match will take place on July 31.
AEW’s strong relationship with CMLL
Rosa has been a regular on both AEW and CMLL programming for most of 2026, signing a dual contract back in April. In AEW, she recently competed in the Casino Gauntlet match that took place earlier this month at Dynamite Beach Break, which was won by Willow Nightingale.
AEW stars have been frequently seen on CMLL in the last year, further strengthening the relationship between the two companies. Late last month, the ROH Tag Team titles changed hands in Mexico when Mistico and Mascara Dorada defeated The Beast Mortos and Sammy Guevara to win the titles. Mortos and Guevara had been defending the titles in the country as Mortos continued to deal with visa issues that kept him out of the United States.
