Alex Windsor opens up about balancing motherhood with AEW career
Alex Windsor wants to be able to prioritize her career and motherhood without having to sacrifice either.
Windsor joined the AEW roster this summer as a new addition to the women’s division. Based in the United Kingdom, she is engaged to fellow AEW star Will Ospreay with the couple sharing a child together that Ospreay is a stepfather to.
On the AEW Unrestricted podcast, Windsor opened up about the “massive reality check” of keeping her family a priority while also taking the next step in her career.
“I think it’s definitely been, like, a massive reality check for me. Since we’ve been together, it’s kind of like I’ve sort of — not taken a hit within wrestling, but I feel like if Will was away, I would make sure I wasn’t taking any bookings to be at home with my son,” Windsor said. “So to now be in a position where I’ve kind of like, not got a choice — because obviously I wanted to do this — but it’s kind of like, it’s that next step in not just my career but I guess being a mum because it’s a sacrifice that I’ve had to make.
“In the long run, I want to be able to say to my son, looking back, that I’ve prioritized being a mother but also my career. I don’t want to look back and say I’ve had to choose between one or the other. It’s hard. I feel like recently I’ve been very in and out and I kind of feel almost out of place at home sometimes.”
Windsor added that she’s sure to make the time she has with her son as special as possible. And during the times she is away, she knows her son is in good hands.
“But I feel like when I am home, it does make it so much more special. I want to do as much as I can with my son when I am home. He’s also at an age where he’s very in the moment,” she said.
“Obviously, when I do leave, it breaks his little heart and it breaks my heart, but then he’s with my parents or he’s with Will. So he’s just — he lives in the moment. I know that when I’m gone, he’s in safe hands, he’s absolutely fine. I think when he’s older, he’ll probably be able to understand it more as well.”
Windsor’s AEW career has included a feud with TBS Champion Mercedes Mone. Though she was not victorious, Windsor got to have a big moment in her home country when she was part of a four-way match for the TBS title at Forbidden Door: London this August.
Forbidden Door was Ospreay’s last time competing before undergoing neck surgery. He has a long road back, but Ospreay’s surgery was a success and he can’t wait to return when the time comes.
