Darby Allin rules out AEW match with Mick Foley, wants to team with him

Darby Allin | AEW

A potential match between Darby Allin and Mick Foley in AEW appears to be off the table.

Earlier this week, Foley named Darby as a potential dream opponent if he was to come out of retirement during an interview with Going Ringside.

However, Darby told Jon Alba of The Takedown on SI that he would never wrestle Foley, though he would be interested in teaming with him, similar to how he never wanted to wrestle Sting but did team with him.

“I would never wrestle Mick. I would never wrestle against Mick,” Darby said.

“Would I team with him? Absolutely. I would team with him in a heartbeat. Just like I would never wrestle Sting. I would love to team with him. But that’s the thing for Mick to answer. What does he feel in his career that, if he would even need that, if there’s any questions unanswered?”

Later in the interview, Darby said there would be “more meat on the bone” with him and Foley teaming together than there would be with them as opponents. He also noted that there are a lot of people saying Foley does not need to be in the ring.

“I don’t feel like I’d get out of it what we want, I feel like there’s a lot more meat on the bone with me teaming with him. I just don’t think I’d get out of it what I would think I would,” Darby said.

“I wouldn’t want to go out there and have that with somebody like Mick that a lot of people are saying he doesn’t need to be in the ring. If he’s gonna be in the ring, I wanna do everything to help him, like, by his side. It’s just not something that interests me.”

Foley has said in recent interviews that losing over 100 pounds and undergoing hip and knee replacements have made him feel more mobile. He has said that if he was to wrestle again, he would need to avoid taking any trauma to the head. Foley hasn’t wrestled since an appearance in the 2012 Royal Rumble match.
