Injury update on AEW World Champion CM Punk

While taking part in an AEW panel at San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday night, CM Punk gave an update on his recovery from injury.

Punk stated that he doesn’t have a timeline for when he’ll be able to return to the ring. Punk said his foot injury is healing, but it’s not healed yet. Punk said he “shattered” his foot when he injured it in June and he’s re-learning to walk again.

Punk has been out of action since the June 1 episode of AEW Dynamite. He suffered the foot injury just days after defeating Hangman Page at Double or Nothing to win the AEW World Championship.

Despite being injured, Punk has remained AEW World Champion. Jon Moxley was crowned Interim AEW World Champion in Punk’s absence and will be facing Punk to crown an undisputed champion when Punk is able to return.

Moxley is defending the Interim AEW World Championship against Rush on Dynamite this Wednesday.

AEW president and CEO Tony Khan also addressed Punk’s status during a media scrum after ROH Death Before Dishonor on Saturday. Khan said Punk is doing well and is on track in his recovery.

When asked if Punk would be back for All Out this September, Khan said he can’t rule it out but also can’t promise it because he doesn’t want to say anything like that about someone’s recovery from a serious injury. Khan said Punk is battling hard to get back as soon as he can.
