Jake ‘The Snake’ Roberts announces AEW departure
Wrestling legend Jake “The Snake” Roberts is no longer under contract with AEW.
During a newly released interview with Bill Apter that was recorded in May, Roberts announced that his time with AEW had come to an end. He’d been with AEW since the early years of the promotion but was not often featured on television, especially as of late. His on-screen roles included managing Lance Archer and La Faccion Ingobernable. Roberts also had a role in AEW’s community relations department.
Roberts, who admitted that he has not really been keeping up with any pro wrestling lately, said he loved working for Tony Khan while with AEW.
“Loved it. I just finished up working for him. I’m no longer employed by AEW,” Roberts responded when asked what working for Khan is like. “[Tony Khan] is awesome, really is — breath of fresh air.”
Roberts said his focus has mostly been on his grandkids, and he’s also passionate about the 1965 Cadillac convertible that he owns.
Jake Roberts’ health and sobriety —
Roberts is now 14 years sober and is doing so well that Diamond Dallas Page — who helped Roberts reach this point — no longer even worries that Roberts will turn back to his past demons.
At the start of 2026, Roberts underwent successful hip surgery. The 71-year-old Roberts has COPD and emphysema but, over the past few years, has improved to the point that he no longer needs supplemental oxygen.
Roberts is a member of the WWE Hall of Fame, having been inducted in 2014.
