Jon Moxley given time off from AEW

One of AEW’s top stars is currently taking some time away from the ring.

Dave Meltzer reports in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Jon Moxley has been granted some time off from AEW. Moxley hasn’t wrestled since AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door 2024, and Meltzer notes that he has not been backstage at AEW shows since then either.

“Moxley hasn’t wrestled or been at television since Forbidden Door,” Meltzer wrote. “He has been given time off.”

During AEW Blood & Guts this Wednesday, Renee Paquette posted a tweet joking that she’s grateful her husband Moxley wasn’t part of the violent match. Team AEW (Swerve Strickland, Mark Briscoe, The Acclaimed & Darby Allin) defeated Team Elite (The Young Bucks, Kazuchika Okada, Jack Perry & Hangman Page) in Blood & Guts.

At Forbidden Door, Moxley lost the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship to Tetsuya Naito. His reign with the title lasted 79 days, winning it from Naito this April before dropping it back in June.

Moxley is a three-time AEW World Champion. His Blackpool Combat Club stablemate Bryan Danielson is challenging current champion Swerve Strickland for the title at All In on Sunday, August 25. Claudio Castagnoli and Wheeler Yuta are also members of the faction with Moxley and Danielson.
