Kenny Omega doing better, no update on AEW return date yet

In the new edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer provided an update on how Kenny Omega is doing after diverticulitis surgery.

Omega was forced out of action in December 2023 due to diverticulitis, a condition that could have been fatal if he waited longer to go to the hospital. He underwent surgery on his intestines this May and expressed optimism that, when he returns to the ring, he’ll be feeling better than he has in a long time.

Meltzer writes that, while there’s no update on Omega’s return date, he’s heard that the former AEW World Champion is “doing better.”

“Regarding Kenny Omega, we haven’t heard anything new past he’s doing better and while we don’t have any kind of a date for him returning, the feeling right now is that he will be returning and his career isn’t over,” Meltzer wrote. “He hasn’t been cleared to start any training yet.”

Though Omega hasn’t wrestled in seven months, he was able to make an appearance on AEW Dynamite in May before having surgery. The episode took place in Omega’s hometown of Winnipeg and featured an angle where he was attacked by The Elite.

Omega’s appearance on Dynamite teased that he’ll renew his in-ring rivalry with Kazuchika Okada when he’s able to get back in the ring. Okada joined The Elite after The Young Bucks “fired” Omega from the faction.
