Mercedes Mone says Sasha Banks ‘wanted it all, but she never got to hold it all’

Mercedes Mone compared her current character to WWE’s Sasha Banks in a new interview.

Although she was a six-time Women’s World Champion on WWE’s main roster, her title reigns were often brief. Since leaving the company, Mone has won multiple world titles across a variety of promotions and still holds an undefeated record in AEW singles matches.

Speaking to CBS Sports for an article published on Wednesday, Mone said that her current character is everything that Sasha Banks wanted to be.

“She wanted it all, but she never got to hold it all,” Mone said of her WWE character. “Mercedes Mone, the CEO, is everything ‘The Legit Boss’ wanted to be. She controls her life, narrative and intellectual property.”

“It’s being the boss of your life, taking control and doing that daily,” she continued. “I feel the best I’ve ever felt in my professional wrestling career. It’s so crazy to say that. I thought maybe my 20s would be my highest point. Here I am going into my 15th year of professional wrestling feeling my greatest. I can’t even imagine what the next five years will hold.”

Mone will challenge Toni Storm for the AEW Women’s World Championship at All In at Globe Life Field on Saturday. It will be her 27th AEW singles match since debuting against Willow Nightingale at Double or Nothing 2024. Storm and Mone are scheduled for a face-to-face segment on tonight’s Dynamite.

Mone also recently revealed a new line of exclusive merchandise through a partnership with anime streaming service Crunchyroll.

“It’s a dream come true. I’ve loved anime since before I can remember…” Mone said of the merchandise. “I always connected with anime, watching it before and after school. It was a different escape before I found pro wrestling.”
