Orange Cassidy on his pockets spot: ‘You never know what’s going to work’
You never really know what will work in pro wrestling. Just ask Orange Cassidy.
One of the AEW star’s trademark spots is putting his hands in his pockets while wrestling, throwing his opponents for a loop. In a new interview with TMZ Sports, Cassidy said that the spot is simply based on something he did during a match with Marko Stunt, getting over well enough to where he started to use it in many of his matches.
“I thought about…oh, this is working, great! You know, it’s one of those things. I’ve spent a lot of time in professional wrestling, like over a decade it took me to figure out what I needed to do to connect with people and stuff,” he said. “And you never know what’s going to work and you just got to try to just keep at it and be persistent. It’s one of those things where I’m very grateful I had the opportunity to try this stuff out, like I had a lot of time. I had nothing to lose. So I was just trying anything.”
“That is like a thing I never thought would happen where people would be like, oh yeah, you got to put those hands in your pockets,” he continued. “But that to me is what is a great professional wrestler. Something that stands out that people can identify with.”
Cassidy has been a big presence on AEW television since signing with the company in 2019. He’s held the International title twice and is one third of the Trios Champions alongside Kyle O’Reailly and Roderick Strong.
