More reports come out regarding Trey Miguel’s AEW release, WBD’s involvement

Trey Miguel AEW

Following Trey Miguel’s AEW release news last week, new reporting has emerged related to the reasons behind it.

Fightful Select confirmed that Miguel’s release was a decision made above AEW and heavily implied to be a WBD decision.

It was further noted that the decision was related to a controversial post Miguel made in 2020, although he had immediately apologized for it. No additional posts or situations were factored into the reason provided for Miguel’s release.

One WBD employee that replied to their requests for information said they couldn’t confirm the validity of the rumors.

Following Miguel’s release, the outlet noted that the internal reaction within AEW was “of frustration” as Miguel and The Rascalz shared a good relationship with AEW. Several wrestlers also felt that there were standards that applied to AEW talent in comparison to other personalities who have appeared on WBD’s “properties.”

Multiple examples were provided of other WBD affiliated talent that had made controversial comments but were not taken off the air or prevented from getting deals.

The constant belief was that no one in AEW got Miguel fired. When Fightful Select reached out to Miguel’s former promotion, TNA, it was clarified that they never had any problems with him, nor has Fightful found any contacts in AEW in favor of the release.
