Result of Women’s World Championship match from WWE SummerSlam
Liv Morgan is still WWE Women’s Champion.
The opening match of this year’s SummerSlam weekend saw Morgan defeat IYO SKY to retain the Women’s World Championship. The finish had SKY power out of an Oblivion, only for Morgan to connect with a codebreaker in response. Morgan then connected with the Oblivion for the pinfall and the title.
One of the big talking points ahead of the match was that Morgan hadn’t defended the title in roughly 100 days, dating back to when she defeated Stephanie Vaquer for the title at WrestleMania 42. After her title defense, Cathy Kelley said that Morgan told her she wouldn’t be defending the title for another 100 days.
Queen of the Ring rematch
Morgan turned heads when she entered the Queen of the Ring tournament earlier this summer despite being Women’s World Champion. She made it to the finals but lost to SKY, setting up the SummerSlam rematch soon after.
In the weeks leading to Minneapolis, SKY frequently interrupted Judgement Day’s plans, including this past Monday at Raw by taking out Liv Morgan. However, Raquel Rodriguez still emerged as the Women’s Intercontinental Champion after help from Roxanne Perez.
