Ricochet details how he plans to approach AEW National Championship reign
Ricochet isn’t promising to be a fighting champion.
After becoming the inaugural AEW National Champion by winning the Casino Gauntlet Match at AEW Full Gear on Saturday, Ricochet was asked at the post-show media event how he plans on making the title stick out from others in the promotion. He responded that his title reign won’t be the “over show” where wrestlers are given title matches without first earning a shot.
Ricochet said:
“Sorry brother, you’re going to have to really earn your spot. I already have a criteria in my head of things you have to achieve before you even get close to this. And as far as going outwards and going to the CMLLs, and the Indies, and the New Japans. Listen guys, I was King of the Indies when the Indies were the hottest they’ve ever been. I was running it. So whatever competition they’ve got going on nowadays is just going to be easy money for me. I love charity work, it’ll be something that I do for the good of the community.”
Tony Khan then mentioned Ricochet being a “different guy” a year ago at AEW Full Gear 2024. Ricochet seemed to imply he had no memory of this before saying:
“You know what happened? I started being myself, that’s what happened. I stopped pretending. I stopped trying to do things that I felt these little losers are gonna like.”
The win at Full Gear was Ricochet’s first title win in AEW. During his WWE run, he held the Intercontinental, United States, NXT North American, and Speed titles once.
