AEW commentator taking time off due to shoulder surgery

Taz has announced that he’ll be stepping away from the AEW commentary team for a while.

He revealed on social media Wednesday that he’ll soon undergo total shoulder replacement surgery, writing:

“I will be having total shoulder replacement surgery in a short time. Therefore I will be off AEW Dynamite for some time. See you soon.”

Taz was told in May 2024 that he needed both knees and shoulders replaced. At the time, he said he would be trying “regenerative procedures” rather than going under the knife. He had one knee replaced in October 2024, which led to him being off AEW programming until late December.

Taz also missed Forbidden Door and an episode of Dynamite from London, England this summer, as the long flight would have been hard on his new knee.

Taz says his injuries are from training too hard in the gym, and not from taking bumps in a ring. He posted to social media last year: “This is NOT from bumps… It’s from training too heavy like a caveman trying to be ‘big’. I’m posting this for today’s wrestlers, please be smarter, times have changed for the better!!
