Tony Khan addresses potential AEW Hall of Fame, whether ROH version will return
While nothing sounds imminent, Tony Khan is interested in the idea of establishing an AEW Hall of Fame.
The AEW boss spoke with the Battleground Podcast ahead of AEW Redemption and was asked about ROH’s version of the Hall of Fame, which was established during the promotion’s Sinclair Broadcasting era and has not seen any new inductees since Khan acquired ROH. The first (and only) class of 2022 consisted of The Briscoes (Jay & Mark), Bryan Danielson, Samoa Joe, CM Punk, and Legacy Award winner Cary Silkin (a former owner of ROH).
“Nobody’s ever asked me about that — or if they have, it’s been a really long time and I can’t remember — I really think that’s a tremendous thought,” Khan said when asked about the ROH HOF potentially returning. “I have not added to the Ring of Honor Hall of Fame. It was a fantastic inaugural class that Ring of Honor, the previous administration, had inducted. So that was something that had already been set up when I bought the company. I think they picked a fantastic class, and I do think there are people that would be fantastic additions to the Ring of Honor Hall of Fame, and it is definitely something to think about and something I am interested in.”
Khan said he hasn’t thought about whether there would be any kind of ceremony if the ROH HOF did return. With the first class, there were only announcements made online.
When the Battleground Podcast brought up ROH Women’s World Champion Athena as a potential inductee given her record-breaking reign, Khan said he believes Athena has an excellent Hall of Fame case.
Possible AEW Hall of Fame —
The discussion then turned to a possible AEW Hall of Fame and when it would be appropriate to launch one. Khan did not have any kind of timeline but called the HOF a good idea and something that he’ll have to consider.
“I think it’s a good thought,” Khan said. “I’d be interested in doing it.”
In the past, Khan has mentioned Sting and the late Brodie Lee and Jay Briscoe (even though he never competed for AEW) as worthy inductees.
