Tony Khan: ‘The stories in AEW have been as strong as ever’

Tony Khan addressed what he feels is the biggest misconception about AEW in a recent interview.
The AEW President appeared on Z100 New York’s Superstar Crossover on Wednesday ahead of Dynamite and said the notion that there is no great storytelling in AEW is false. He specifically mentioned the criticism some had of the storytelling during Jon Moxley’s most recent run with the AEW World Championship that concluded with Hangman Page’s title win at AEW All In.
“I think the stories in AEW have been as strong as ever,” Khan said to the show’s host, Josh Martinez.
“I think the stories in AEW have been fantastic this year. And we’ve been talking a long time about some of the great stories in AEW. And you even just said how fantastic you thought some of the storytelling around Jon Moxley’s World Championship reign has been. People even questioned that aspect of it and I think that was proven right.”
“Whether you love them or not, nobody can question, there’s a lot of storytelling in AEW. I think it’s fantastic, and a lot of the fans who actually pay attention to it think it’s great.”
“There’s people that would say that there’s a lack, and I don’t agree with this, I think it’s untrue, of stories in AEW. I don’t think that’s true at all, and it’s really not only a misconception, but a falsehood that people spread.”
Former WCW president and WWE Hall of Famer Eric Bischoff has been a vocal critic of AEW storytelling in recent years. During an appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show last December, Bischoff said of AEW, “There is nobody there who knows what a story actually is.”
Up next for AEW is tonight’s episode of Dynamite scheduled for the Andrew J Brady Music Center in Cincinnati, Ohio. Jon Moxley is set for in-ring action in his hometown on the show. He’s set to wrestle Kevin Knight on the show.
