Tony Khan announces new rule for Casino Gauntlet AEW World title shots

Tony Khan announced a change in the rule for the world title shots earned from winning a Casino Gauntlet match.

Previously, the contracts appeared to operate under Money in the Bank rules, though many winners have executed them ahead of time. At the AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door post-event media scrum, Khan revealed that moving forward, those contracts will require one week’s notice before being cashed in.

Khan said: “I want AEW to be different and I’ve been listening to the feedback and the voice of the fans and I think people want the championships in the sport of pro wrestling to have integrity.”

“I don’t want to have a big ticket championship match that we are unable to advertise and also I don’t really want to necessarily utilize a stipulation here that’s being utilized other places.”

“That’s why going forward, I want to set the tone that from now on I think the right thing to do is all contract executions should be on at least a week’s notice so we can properly promote the matches, so that we can properly give the fans notice and have the integrity of a championship match.”

MJF is the current holder of the Casino Gauntlet contract for a world title shot in the men’s division, as he was not required to cash it in for his match against Page at Forbidden Door. Athena won the women’s Casino Gauntlet match but executed her contract ahead of time to challenge Toni Storm for the title at Forbidden Door. Christian Cage attempted to cash in his Casino Gauntlet contract in March during the main event of Revolution, making the Jon Moxley vs. Adam Copeland match a three-way.
