Tony Khan announces tournament for vacant AEW Tag Team titles

The AEW Tag Team titles are officially vacant.

Tony Khan announced during the AEW Revolution media scrum on Sunday that a tournament will be held this month to determine new AEW Tag Team Champions. Khan said the tournament would start in March, but didn’t give a specific date.

The titles will be vacated due to Sting’s retirement match at Revolution, where he and Darby Allin successfully retained the titles against The Young Bucks in a tornado match. Allin took a huge dive off a ladder during the course of the match, injuring his back after falling through glass. Regardless, he has already been announced for a singles bout at AEW Big Business on March 13, where he will face Jay White.

Sting & Allin held the titles for 25 days, defeating Ricky Starks and Big Bill on the February 7 edition of Dynamite. After they won the titles, they were attacked by The Young Bucks with baseball bats, leading to the match at AEW Revolution.
