An update is available regarding why MJF hasn’t factored into AEW’s plans for Redemption in Montreal this weekend.

During the Redemption media call on Thursday, Tony Khan was asked why MJF isn’t on the card and responded that the three-time AEW World Champion is currently working through some major injuries. Khan also said MJF deserves praise for having wrestled through those injuries this year.

Khan noted that MJF’s injuries are not expected to keep him out long-term. He also acknowledged the benefit of having a deep roster in situations like this.

Khan was also asked if it was originally slated to be MJF vs. Kenny Omega at Redemption, noting a TSN promo for the pay-per-view aired recently that seemed to imply Omega would be challenging for the title. Khan responded that he has to keep “some sleight of hand in these things,” but mentioned he feels they have made “the right moves.”

MJF’s last match took place at AEW Dynamite Beach Break on July 8 in Clearwater, Florida, where he dropped the AEW World Championship to Omega. Omega has since been announced to defend the title against Kevin Knight at the Redemption pay-per-view in Montreal.

MJF’s third reign with the title ended after 45 days and included successful title defenses against Rush and Mark Briscoe.
