Tony Khan says he plans to grant Tay Melo her release from AEW.

On today’s AEW Redemption media call, the AEW president confirmed that Melo asked for her release, as previously reported. However, Khan said the request was made a few weeks ago and initially took him by surprise.

Khan said Melo asked for her release following a match on Collision, telling him that she wanted to step away from wrestling. He added that he now plans to grant the request.

Melo last wrestled on AEW programming on the June 6, 2026, edition of AEW Collision in Youngstown, Ohio, where TayJay lost an AEW Women’s World Tag Team title match to Divine Dominion.

Khan also addressed the status of Tay’s husband, Sammy Guevara, confirming that there has never been any change in Guevara’s status with the company.

According to Khan, Guevara texted him earlier today to say that he was not trying to stir things up when he recently changed his social media bio. Some fans had incorrectly assumed that Guevara removed references to AEW from his profile.
