Update on Josh Alexander injury at AEW Collision taping
Dave Meltzer addressed the injury to Josh Alexander in the latest edition of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter.
Alexander was helped to the back following a knee injury during the AEW Collision taping in Fresno on Wednesday during the World Trios title match.
Meltzer wrote in the March 23, 2026 edition of the newsletter that the full extent of the injury is not yet known. However, Alexander’s knee has been bothering him for several years, and he had been aware that it would need to be addressed at some point.
Meltzer wrote:
“At press time, the knee had not been checked out completely so we don’t yet know the extent of the damage. The knee has been bothering him for six years and he kind of knew that at some point he’d have to take care of it, and it appears now is that point.”
Meltzer and Garrett Gonzales also discussed the situation on Friday’s episode of Wrestling Observer Radio.
Meltzer said:
“As of yesterday he had not gotten word on the severity of it, so we don’t know yet. Hopefully it’s not too bad, but he’s been working with a bad knee for six years, and I think that he kind of knew that at some point this would probably happen.”
“The wear and tear when you work that style, you’re going to get injuries, and hopefully it’s not bad. Hopefully he doesn’t need surgery or anything and he’s not out for long, but we don’t know the answer yet.”
In addition to his AEW schedule, Alexander had been scheduled for the Ring of Honor and Maple Leaf Pro’s Global Wars shows in Windsor, Ontario, on March 27 and 28. Alexander is the reigning MLP champion and most recently defended the title against Esfinge at Arena Mexico on February 20.
The match in which Alexander was injured is scheduled to air on Sunday’s episode of Slam Dunk Collision.
