WWE’s Brie Bella updates Bryan Danielson’s AEW status
Bryan Danielson hasn’t wrestled a real match in almost two years now. That sounds like retirement, but then, Danielson has already come back from retirement once before. Could he try another comeback in the near future.
That’s not likely, according to Danielson’s wife, Brie Bella. She talked about Danielson’s current lifestyle in an interview with longtime New York radio personality Sal Licata.
“For me, I’m lucky because my husband is so supportive,” Bella told Licata. “Because he retired from in-ring, it gave me the opportunity to come back. When I started to realize his schedule, I was like, ‘I really want to make a comeback. I want you to be my coach. I really want to train hard, it’s going to be a lot of work, but will you be able to deal with the schedule?’ He was like, ‘Yes, 100%.’ So, I honestly couldn’t do it without him. I feel so blessed.”
Bella went on to explain how Danielson was doing a great job managing the household.
“He’s been picking up all those times when it was just the kids and I, you know?” she said. “It’s funny because I’m like, ‘’You’re like Pinterest dad.’ He’s crushing it. The homemade meals, the fun snacks, the arts and crafts. He’s doing a great job. But honestly, I couldn’t do it without his support because he allows me to come out here and do what I love.”
Danielson initially retired from professional wrestling in 2016, but he returned to action in 2018 and joined AEW in 2021. His last televised match was in October of 2024, when he lost the AEW World Championship to Jon Moxley. Technically, he has had one match since then: a 8-second win over Max Caster in a dark match in his home state of Washington in June of 2025.
Bella herself is wrestling full-time again after her own extended absence. From 2019 through 2025, she wrestled only one match: a surprise appearance in the Royal Rumble in 2022. She returned again at the Royal Rumble this year, and went on to team with Paige to win the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships at WrestleMania.
