Chelsea Green reflects on emotional WWE SummerSlam victory: ‘It was 13 years of blood, sweat and tears’

Chelsea Green has message for Michael Hayes after WWE SummerSlam win

Chelsea Green opened up about the emotional sentiment behind winning the WWE Women’s Title last weekend.

Green highlighted the significance of winning the Interim WWE Women’s Championship at SummerSlam. On Complex Graps Wrestling Podcast, Green explained how the victory was 13 years in the making, and going beyond what WWE creative hands talents to prove they have earned the top spots.

“I never want to look at it in a glass-half-empty way because we go through so much in this business and nothing is up to us. Nothing. We can only control our body, our mindset, and the energy we put into our socials and our creativity outside of the ring and outside of what WWE creative gives us.”

“It’s always going to be that I wanted to prove myself right. I wanted to prove my fans right. But at the end of the day, climbing that ladder was 13 years in the making. It was 13 years of blood, sweat and tears. It was 13 years of my mom coming to shows where they paid me 20 bucks and we had 30 people in the crowd. It was so many other moments that led to this. And I think that’s why everyone was so emotional when I was standing on top of that ladder. Some of my coworkers, tons of them, were crying.”

“Tons of my peers were crying because I feel like I was doing it for all of us. We’ve all been on this crazy, hectic, wild ride, and some people never get that moment. I wasn’t just doing it for me. I was doing it for kind of all of us.”

Following Green’s WWE return in 2023, she became one of the company’s most entertaining and popular personalities. She was the inaugural Women’s United States Champion in 2024. At SummerSlam Sunday she participated in a five woman ladder match to determine the Interim Women’s Champion while Rhea Ripley was injured. She underwent surgery for a meniscus tear that has kept her sidelined.
