F4W NEWSLETTER: Figure Four Weekly: Seth Rollins, Becky Lynch win Royal Rumbles

For the second straight year, WWE went with two fan-pleasing choices as their Royal Rumble winners. WWE followed up on Shinsuke Nakamura and Asuka's wins from last year by having Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch win their respective Rumble matches on Sunday night. The results were entirely predictable, but that doesn't mean they weren't the right choices. While there are other stories that WWE can tell, top babyfaces beginning their road to WrestleMania by winning the Royal Rumble will pretty much always work.

  • Kevin Owens followed up on the tweet where he indicated that he was training at the Performance Center with Adam Cole: “I appreciate people getting excited after my tweet earlier today but I’m beginning to put some furniture together in my house just now and I’m not coming back to @WWE until I’m done with that and I suck at it so I’ll see you all in a few months, maybe more. Thank you. Take care!”

  • Triple H discussed Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski in an interview with Sports Illustrated: “Rob is very close with one of our stars, Mojo Rawley. We’ve met a few times, and he’s actually come down to the Performance Center and even done stuff with us at WrestleMania. He’s a great guy, an incredible player, and it’s hard not to root for him. I’ll be watching him, but that’s also because my wife is a massive Patriots fan. Gronk has mentioned WWE before, that he loves it and said had so much fun doing it. I don’t know if it’s something he’d be seriously interested in, but that’s how the conversation started with Ronda Rousey, too. Certainly the door is open for him at WWE.”

  • Dana White thinks it would be “insane” for the Nevada Athletic Commission to punish fighters for trash talk: “I think it’s crazy, I think it’s insane. I think it’s unconstitutional, first of all. I don’t think you can legally do that. These guys get into a cage and they punch each other in the face. They can knock each other unconscious, they can choke each other, but they can’t say mean things to each other? It’s pretty ridiculous.”
  • White said Colby Covington is now “going to have to fight again and earn the spot to get back” to challenging for the welterweight title
  • Tyron Woodley defended himself against people who think he dodges fights: “There’s nothing that I do outside the octagon that ever stops me from being able to fight. Surgery and being out rehabbing is what kept me from fighting earlier than what I’ve liked to. It’s never been me doing a movie, or an album, or television.”
  • Filmmaker Jose Padilha is directing a movie for Netflix on the origins of Brazilian jiu-jitsu.
