Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson discusses Triple H meeting to join WWE
Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson, known for his overtowering physique and role as The Mountain on Game of Thrones revealed a conversation with Paul ‘Triple H’ Levesque about a wrestling career in WWE.
The powerlifter told Ross Tucker in an exclusive interview why his professional wrestling never materialized. He recalled visiting WWE’s office in Tampa, meeting Triple H and other company officials who had a keen interest in bringing him in as a competitor some time in 2015.
“At one point in my life, it crossed my mind, and I flew to Tampa, met up with Triple H and the team and went to the office and spoke to them. It crossed my mind that they were trying to do WWE, but nothing came out of it. I think they saw that my mind was more into Strongman and yeah, we spoke, but nothing of all of it.”
Björnsson has an accomplished resume in sports. He competed at the highest level of strongman, winning the World’s Strongest Man title in 2018. He has participated in numerous strength competitions.
Standing at nearly 7 feet tall, Björnsson would have fit naturally among WWE’s long line of larger-than-life superstars who have captivated audiences over the years. While his focus on strongman prevented a move to professional wrestling, his physique, athletic background, and on-screen presence as Game of Thrones’ ‘The Mountain’ made him an intriguing prospect for the company.
