New champions crowned at Impact Slammiversary

One of Impact Wrestling’s tentpole events of the year saw three new champions crowned including a new World champion in the evening’s main event.

At Saturday’s Slammiversary, Eddie Edwards pinned Ace Austin in a fatal five way after two Boston Knee Party strikes and the Die Hard Flowsion to begin his second World title reign.

The match was made a five way when the returning Eric Young came out after Rich Swann was announced as the mystery fourth entrant. Young eliminated Trey Miguel while Swann eliminated Young, leading to an attack afterward by Young. Austin eliminated an injured Swann shortly thereafter.

In other title changes:

  • Deonna Purrazzo submitted Jordynne Grace clean to become the new Knockouts champion, ending the champion’s 182 day reign. Grace was looking for a second Grace Driver, but Purrazzo blocked and locked on a double armbar submission for the win. Purrazzo will defend against Kylie Rae at some point as she won a title shot in a gauntlet match earlier in the night.
  • Chris Bey defeated Willie Mack for the X Division title after he went to Mack’s eyes during a spot with a referee which led to him hitting the Final Finesse for the win. This is Bey’s first title reign while Mack’s first reign with the belt ended after 91 days.
  • The North continued their record tag team title reign with a win over Ken Shamrock and Sami Callihan and will face the Motor City Machine Guns Tuesday, while Moose retained his TNA title with a victory over Tommy Dreamer in an old school rules match.
