Former Tegan Nox says post-WWE bookings are ‘starting to pick up’

After a slow start to her post-WWE career, things are starting to pick up for Nixon Newell.
The former Tegan Nox recently admitted to Wrestling in the Middle that she’s had a “severe lack of bookings” since her release from WWE in November 2024. While things are still going slower than she’d like, Newell feels like she’s beginning to turn a corner. She told Busted Open Radio today that a social media promo she posted on June 7 has already led to an increase in bookings.
“It’s been slow, but it’s picking up a lot now, which I’m happy to say that, you know, I’m getting a bit more busier. I like to be busy,” Newell said.
Newell believes she wasn’t being proactive enough in promoting herself after her release. She also thinks WWE playing up her past knee injury issues has made people see her as injury-prone and has perhaps made some promoters scared to take a chance on her.
Along with that, Newell had to deal with real-life issues like getting into a “massive” car wreck shortly after her release.
“I went through quite a lot in the last couple of months, which, unfortunately, I put out a post saying wrestling unfortunately did take a back step for me. Like within days of being released, I was in a massive car wreck,” she said. “So I’ve been sorting that out.
“And then when the 90 days came up, I had to go straight back home and do some shows there. But life has just been so crazy that unfortunately, wrestling did take a back step. But when I released a promo the other day on Instagram, the feedback and the attraction that it got made me understand and prove to myself that I was right. Where, yeah, ‘You have definitely been lax and you shouldn’t have put wrestling so far back in your life.’ So now I’m taking the initiative of doing promos, doing pictures, doing a bunch of stuff just to get myself back out there, get myself, you know, the name Nixon Newell back in people’s minds.”
Newell is originally from Wales but is based in Orlando, Florida right now and will soon be moving to Texas. Her current goal is to wrestle anywhere and everywhere and make it so promoters feel like they need her on their show.
“I want to be wrestling-related for as long as I physically can, whether it’s an active wrestler, producer, trainer, coach, anything to do with wrestling,” Newell said. “This is my life and has been my life since I was 16. This is going to be my 14th year in wrestling this year.
“So I do truly believe that, you know, after posting that promo and seeing the reactions that it got, I do believe I put wrestling a bit too far back than I should have done, even though life is rough, life’s rough for everyone. So it is on my part where I definitely should have been a bit more proactive. But now that I’ve seen that, my foot’s on the gas pedal. I’m going. So in the last week and a half since I posted it, my bookings have picked up. I’m, you know, I’m wrestling quite frequently now, still not as busy as I’d like to be, but it’s starting to pick up now. So I’ve realized my mistakes. I’m rectifying that mistake.”
Newell has had two separate stints with WWE, initially joining the company in 2017 before being released in 2021. She made her return in 2022 but was let go again last November. In her post-WWE career, she’s being represented by Paragon Talent Group, an agency owned by Dean Muhtadi (former WWE wrestler Mojo Rawley).
