‘Fairly sizable’ earthquake takes place during Pro Wrestling NOAH event
On Tuesday (June 16), Pro Wrestling NOAH’s event at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo was briefly impacted when a “fairly sizable” earthquake took place during a match.
An eight-man tag bout with Tetsuya Naito, BUSHI, Kaito Kiyamiya & KENTA facing Masa Kitamiya, Takashi Sugiura, Tetsuya Endo & HAYATA was going on when the earthquake happened. The match briefly paused as Korakuen Hall shook and everyone realized what was going on. The fans in the arena received earthquake alerts on their phones.
“We’re experiencing an earthquake here in Tokyo, and it’s a fairly sizable one,” English commentary said. “Yeah, we are shaking on the fifth floor here. Notifications on everyone’s phone. We’re just going to pause for a moment.”
The match continued with Naito, BUSHI, Kiyamiya & KENTA getting the win. There were then two bouts after that, including the main event where Manabu Soya & Yuki Iino defeated Karl Anderson & Luke Gallows in the finals of NOAH’s Neo Global Tag League.
No serious damage caused by earthquake —
The earthquake, centered in the Ibaraki prefecture northeast of Tokyo, had a preliminary magnitude of 5.5 but did not trigger a tsunami warning, and no serious damage or injuries have been reported. It did cause some bullet trains to be temporarily suspended for safety checks.
