Quarterfinal matches set for New Japan Cup

The quarterfinals for this year’s New Japan Cup are now set following night six of the tournament.

This morning’s New Japan Cup show saw EVIL, Taichi, SANADA, and YOSHI-HASHI advance to the next round of the tournament. EVIL defeated Hirooki Goto, Taichi defeated Kota Ibushi, SANADA defeated SHO, and YOSHI-HASHI defeated BUSHI.

All of the quarterfinal matches will take place tomorrow (Thursday, July 2). The matches are:

  • Tomohiro Ishii vs. Hiromu Takahashi
  • Kazuchika Okada vs. Taiji Ishimori
  • Taichi vs. SANADA
  • YOSHI-HASHI vs. EVIL

The semifinals for the tournament will then take place on Friday (July 3). That show will feature the winner of Ishii vs. Takahashi facing the winner of Okada vs. Ishimori and the winner of Taichi vs. SANADA facing the winner of YOSHI-HASHI vs. EVIL.

The finals of the tournament will be held on Saturday, July 11. The New Japan Cup winner will then challenge Tetsuya Naito for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship and IWGP Intercontinental Championship in the main event of Dominion on Sunday, July 12.

Osaka-jo Hall is hosting the New Japan Cup finals and Dominion. Fans will be allowed to attend those two shows, but the arena will be limited to one-third capacity.
