Kyle Fletcher on returning AEW match: ‘Didn’t feel like I was at the top of my game yet’

Kyle Fletcher | AEW

Kyle Fletcher addressed his first AEW match since his injury in March, admitting slight ring rust.

In the latest episode of his vlog, Protolog, Fletcher gave a glimpse behind-the-scenes after his first AEW match since March.

“Anyway, first match in the books. I’m officially a professional wrestler again. Oh boy, and does it feel so good. It is so hot here in Houston and I already have a little bit of a cold going on from all the travel I’ve been doing. I’m out of breath. I’m sweaty. I’m out of ring shape, but I feel alive. I feel alive. Everything feels right in the world again. Just glad that first one’s out of the way. The first one’s the hardest one. Didn’t feel like I was at the top of my game yet. I gotta get those reps in first. It was very good to be back.”

During the vlog, Fletcher also discussed taking blows to the head in matches that left him unable to remember what followed.

“I’ve been hit in a match, kept wrestling, got backstage and didn’t remember the match, but never went out. Maybe my brain is just too f*cking strong. If you could create a pro wrestler in a lab, what would he look like, huh? Would he have a brain made of concrete? I think so. In my brain, I have raw, uncooked pizza dough into the shape of a brain.”

He recovered from tearing his meniscus and fracturing both his ankle and tibia in March. Fletcher returned to in-ring competition on the June 17 edition of Dynamite in a 12-man tag team match, partnering with  Andrade El Idolo, Jake Doyle, Kazuchika Okada, Kevin Knight & MJF.
