AAA announces three-way match for title shot against Rey Fenix

About 24 or hours before tomorrow night’s live streaming show, AAA has announced a match for this weekend’s event. 

Airing live from Arena Potosi in San Luis Potosi, Saturday night’s (main event?) contest will be a three-way match between Jack Cartwheel, Mini Vikingo, and Dragon Lee. The winner will then challenge Rey Fenix for the AAA Cruiserweight Championship at Verano de Escandalo later this month. 

This will be the first match for Cartwheel since he was injured over WrestleMania weekend. Cartwheel was hurt while wrestling Galeno Del Mal at GCW Gringo Loco’s The Wrld On Lucha at the Horseshoe in Las Vegas on April 17. About seven minutes into the match, Cartwheel injured his elbow on a reverse phoenix splash. The match was immediately stopped. 

Cartwheel and Lee have met many times in the past; this will be their third match against each other since February. However, Vikingo has never wrestled Lee and has had just one match against Cartwheel: a four-way (also including Baby Extreme and Fulgor) that Cartwheel one at another AAA San Luis Potosi show in 2023. 

Fenix won the AAA Cruiserweight Championship from Laredo Kid at Noche de Los Grandes Night 1 on May 30. He has defended the title four times since then, most recently against El Hijo del Vikingo on SmackDown last week. 

Verano de Escandalo (literally, “Summer of Scandal”) airs Saturday, July 25, from Arena San Marcos in Aguascalientes, Mexico.
