AEW’s Komander to challenge Titan in CMLL
CMLL announced a new match for this weekend’s Fin de Semana Intenacional (“International Weekend”) event: AEW’s Komander will challenge Titan for the CMLL World Welterweight Championship. This comes after the company earlier in the day announced that Bandido will challenge Templario for the Middleweight title on the same show.
Titan won the championship from El Soberano Jr. in December of 2019 and has held it ever since. He has only defended the title nine times since then, however. His last defense was against Villano III Jr. in September of 2024.
That does not mean Titan has been inactive—he has wrestled at least 130 matches every year from 2022 to 2025, mostly in tag team and trios matches. He has already wrestled five matches in 2026.
Komander began his career as a luchador in Mexico, wrestling mostly for AAA. Most of his matches in recent years have come in AEW or ROH, but he’s no stranger to CMLL—he wrestled six matches for the promotion in 2025, most notably losing a challenge to Mascara Dorada’s World Historic Welterweight Championship (a different title than the one currently held by Titan).
This will be the first ever matchup between the two wrestlers.
Fin de Semana Intenacional takes place at Arena Mexico in Mexico City at 5 p.m. on Sunday, January 18.
