Former MLW champion Janai Kai announces free agency

A former MLW champion is entering into free agency.

Janai Kai, the longest-reigning Women’s Champion in MLW history, announced yesterday that she is now a free agent. Kai thanked MLW for the nearly two years she spent with the promotion.

“Thank you MLW,” she wrote. “What a time.”

Kai held the MLW Women’s Featherweight Championship for 455 days from October 2023 to January 2025. She won the title from Delmi Exo and later dropped it back to Exo at the end of her reign. Taya Valkyrie, Exo, Kai, and current champion Shoko Nakajima are the only wrestlers to have held the Women’s Featherweight Championship since MLW introduced the title in 2022.

In MLW, Kai was a member of Contra Unit with Mads Krugger, Ikuro Kwon, and Minoru Suzuki. She’s known as “The Kick Demon” because of her skills in martial arts. Kai’s last MLW match before free agency was a victory over HIMAWARI in April.

The 30-year-old Kai competes on the indies and tweeted that she has dates available for bookings:
